***”The Cardigans”*** are one of the most pleasing pop groups of the alternative era, started when guitarist ***Peter Svensson*** met bassist ***Magnus Sveningsson** in a hardcore group, though he had previously trained in music theory and jazz arranging. The two later grew tired of metal and decided to form a pop band with vocalist ***Nina Persson*** - an art-school friend who had never sung professionally.
***"Gran Turismo"*** is the ***"The Cardigans"*** fourth studio album, released internationally on 19 October 1998, and features a darker and more moody type of music, mixing with more electronic sounds.
There are still elements of the group's appealing melodic style, but they have trimmed away their sense of humor and style, adding vague electronica experiments and mildly distorted guitars in their wake. Truth be told, there were always hints of despair beneath the Cardigans' shiny surface.
GT levitates as a collection of suggestions where the group intended to go,, but in 1998 it was a pretty crowded playing field and this record sadly fell through the cracks.
