Michelangelo with Mozart, Renoir with Chopin, Gainsborough with Mendelssohn, Raphael with Bach, Da Vinci with Beethoven, Degas with Tchaikovsky, etc. Over 50 pairings of great music & great painting (and sculpture). Used on the children's free reading/phonics site ReadingBear.org. Sound files sponsored by the Community Foundation of NW Mississippi.
Use this video to introduce your kids (and yourself) to some of the greatest works of art, visual and musical. My little boys, 4 years and 6 months, both love it!
This combines all six parts into a single video, 19 minutes long.
Note, newer art and music is omitted due to copyright concerns, or else there would be a lot of modern material. CFNM actually purchased the rights for the music tracks for Reading Bear.

I learned these from two old session tapes of the great Donegal fiddler James Byrne, who sadly passed away a few years ago. If anyone can give me names for them, I'd appreciate that.
I'm pretty sure you can listen to the man himself in the related videos.

If you match up the greatest art with the greatest music, what happens? The theme in part 3 is "material success"--the music and painting are often "aristocratic." I took 50-60 of the greatest paintings and statues (appropriate for children), and matched them up with some of the greatest themes from classical music--from 15 to 20 seconds. Here's the result.
These are going to be "interludes" for WatchKnow Reader (see larrysanger dot org for details).

The first I learned from a radio program featuring Dermot McLaughlin, one of my fiddle heroes, and the second is a Charlie Lennon tune that I think I learned from a CD by Bill Dennehy and maybe local players like Sandy Jones. As to the barndance, maybe I could use a little more practice playing in positions. Hope it doesn't hurt your ears too much!
