Palo Verde Trees commonly occur in the Southwest: the foothill, yellow or littleleaf palo verde (Parkinsonia aculeata ) and the blue palo verde (Parkinsonia florida). Palo verde – Spanish for green wood or stick – alludes to the plant’s greenish branches and trunk. Common names refer to location, bark tints or comparative leaf size.
Chaparral is a shrubland plant community found primarily in the U.S. states of Arizona, and in California. It is shaped by a Mediterranean climate (mild, wet winters and hot dry summers) and infrequent, high-intensity crown fires, featuring summer-drought-tolerant plants with hard sclerophyllous evergreen leaves, as contrasted with the associated soft-leaved, drought-deciduous, scrub community of coastal sage scrub, found often on drier, southern facing slopes within the chaparral biome.
The High Chaparral television series, which was broadcast on NBC from 1967 to 1971, is an American Western action adventure drama set in the 1870s. It stars Leif Erickson and Cameron Mitchell. The series was made by Xanadu Productions in association with NBC Productions, and was created by David Dortort, who had previously created Bonanza for the network.

Located on NM highway 4 between San Diego Picnic Area and Vista Linda Campground the Jemez River S Bend National Recreation Area provides easy public trout fishing access.
The Jemez River is formed by the confluence of the East Fork Jemez River and San Antonio Creek, which drain a number of tributaries in the area of the Valles Caldera, Jemez Mountains and Santa Fe National Forest. The Jemez River is about 50 miles long, or about 80 miles long if its longest headwater tributary, San Antonio Creek, is included. The East Fork Jemez River is about 22 miles long. Both San Antonio Creek and the East Fork Jemez River flow through intricate meanders along their courses. The East Fork Jemez is a National Wild and Scenic River.
Most of the Jemez ranges between 15-30 feet wide and generally 2-3 feet deep with a few deeper pools reaching five feet. Cottonwoods, willows and alders are scattered along this freestone like river forcing anglers to wade up the middle. NM Highway 4 parallels the river so access is extremely easy.
The Jemez is a low elevation trout stream, during the heat of summer water temps can soar making for a tough day. Winter on the other hand is cold but seldom freezing making this a wonderful winter fishery. Midge hatches provide the bulk of dry fly action during the winter months, however a well-filled box should include nymphs and streamers. Wild browns range from 8-12 inches, New Mexico Game and Fish stocks rainbows throughout the winter months.

Passengers can choose between traveling from either end to the midpoint at Osier section house where they are served lunch, or they can travel the entire route. The Cumbres & Toltec can be taken from either end. If you don't ride from end to end, the Chama side offers spectacular views and includes a double header (two engines) to climb the pass. It does not, however, continue on to the spectacular Toltec Gorge. Riding from the Antonito side, you will pass through the Toltec Gorge, but the ride also includes lots of rather unscenic travel.Special trains are offered throughout the summer, including wildflower trains, geology trains, and various dinner trains.

Pueblo San Cristobal differs from many of the pueblos in the Galisteo Basin in its greater use of stone as a building material. It is also noteworthy for its prolific rock art in the adjacent boulder field and cliffs and for the Spanish convento with church wall standing 4 m high. It is on the banks of the Arroyo San Cristóbal, a permanent water source. Nelson identified seventeen room blocks and estimated 1,645 rooms.
The rock art on the cliffs and in the boulder field north of the pueblo is extraordinary in its variety, abundance, and diversity. This area is often referred to as “world class,” about which there can be little debate. The majority of the panels in this area are Puebloan, but examples from earlier periods—the Archaic—are also present.
In addition rock art, the site has a number of other features. Around 100 m from the northeast corner of the roomblocks there is a wall made of huge sandstone slabs set on edge (DSC 1048). This wall crosses the entire mesa between the large drainage that bounds the north side of the pueblo and Arroyo San Cristóbal. Like the surrounding wall at Pecos Pueblo and perhaps the long east wall at Pueblo She, this wall may have demarcated the area outside of which visiting groups were required to stay. There are small enclosures within the wall, and figures are cut into the exposed bedrock near the south end of the wall.
Southwest of the pueblo there is a large flat area cut by some shallow drainages. One of these was dammed by a sizable construction. This area seems San Cristóbal rock art almost inevitably to have been an important agricultural area for the pueblo. Further south of this area there are a few cultural features, including small artifact areas and cut logs.

The Virgin River is a tributary of the Colorado River in Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. The river is approximately 162 miles long. It was designated Utah's first wild and scenic river in 2009, during the centennial celebration of Zion National Park.
Its origin is in Southwestern Utah, at the Navajo Reservoir in the Dixie National Forest, north of Zion National Park, and is formed by the confluence of the East Fork Virgin, that flows through Mount Carmel Junction on the east side of Zion National Park and Parunaweap Canyon, with the North Fork Virgin River, that flows from Navajo Lake through Zion Canyon in Zion National Park. The river flows in a southwesterly direction, passing south of the old townsite of St. George where the Santa Clara River joins the Virgin at a place the Paiutes called Tonaquint. The river then flows across the northwestern corner of Arizona through the Virgin River Gorge and past the towns of Beaver Dam and Littlefield. It enters southern Nevada near the town of Mesquite and empties into the Colorado at the Lake Mead reservoir, approximately 40 miles (64 km) east of Las Vegas. The last 30 miles of the Virgin River forms the north arm of Lake Mead.
