I believe the recent friction between Advertisers, YouTube, and content creators is caused by advertisor's fear of entering the third stage of advertising. We used to have show hosts speak about a single sponsor. Then we had pre-made commercials. Now we are moving towards user-targeted ads, which track users, rather than content. This is part of a collaborative sonic arts/sound art project from 2005 between myself and two close friends. We walked around the city of Toronto with a microphone and field recorder, capturing the ambient sounds around us as we explored. The direction we took was determined by "Manfred" The name we gave to the man on the walk/don't walk signs. We then took the recorded audio and mangled it with whatever audio editors we had access to at the time (Mostly Adobe Audition, Audiomulch, and Goldwave). We set a number of strict rules for ourselves as to what was and was not allowed. Cutting and pasting, time stretching, and adding new sounds, for example, were strictly forbidden. At the time, we did not have access to video capture devices, so this was an audio only project.
