20160405 The Popes, Rachel Held Evens, Desiring God, Nabeel Qureshi on Unbelievable Mega Show
Put together a full mega sized DL today, starting off with the obvious differences between the two currently living Popes and then doing nearly 70 minutes on a Rachel Held Evans article and a few articles that have appeared recently on the Desiring God website (John Piper's ministry), but then throwing in another half an hour on a recent Unbelievable webcast featuring Nabeel Qureshi and Joseph Cummings on the topic of whether Christians and Muslims worship the same God. Tough topics, to be sure, but hopefully helpful to all!
I was literally on my way to the office to do a remote DL in the old studio, something we have done four or five times now, when I texted Rich and asked, “I know this is crazy but…any way we could use the big studio and the Flip board remotely?” And we made it work! Kudos to Rich! Now if we could just learn to do the DL without the ugly old dumb Scottish guy! So anyway, the topic! Yes, we dove into Exodus 3:14 and did some old-fashioned inter-textual study today at the start, and then moved into a discussion of the simplicity controversy, finishing with playing a segment from a Sinclair Ferguson sermon from (I believe) 2015. If you wish to end 2021 with some deep consideration of important issues, we hope this blesses you! See you in 2022!

Taped on Long Island in August of 1996, James White debates Gerry Matatics on the subject of the Marian Dogmas: Immaculate Conception, Perpetual Virginity, Bodily Assumption, Queenly Coronation and Mediation of Mary. Are these dogmas about Mary true as the church in Rome claims, or what Protestants say about Mary is true: she was uniquely chosen by God to bear the Messiah and raised Him up like any normal mother, that she had marital relations with her husband, Joseph, and that she was a sinner like all of mankind? A fast-paced debate that is quite the primer if one is studying the Marian dogmas.

I didn't want an entire week to go by without a program, so we snuck one in just under the wire! Gave a bit of a report on where I am as far as surgeries and the like go (another in just over a week), and then I played a short clip from a dialogue Leighton Flowers did recently wherein he spoke of the Spirit's role, or non-role, in salvation, that is very helpful in focusing upon the real differences between the Reformation and Provisionism, which, I allege in this program, is sub-Roman when it comes to its view of grace.

Dedicated the entire hour to a discussion of the Papacy in light of the visit of Francis to the United States. Talked about biblical and historical issues relating to the Papacy, and why there are so few today offering a meaningful criticism of Rome's claims. Hopefully a helpful reminder!

Evidently a big winter storm is heading my way, but we got a program in anyway, discussing my recent defense of Greg Bahnsen, attacks on religious freedom, and an article on Irenaeus' view of "apostolic tradition" (found here). We finished up with a discussion from Isaiah 10 and the freedom and power of God in history. We will try again tomorrow!
Started off talking with Mike O’Fallon from Geneva, Switzerland about our upcoming cruise to Alaska in September (don’t miss out!), and then played a clip from a recent Kent Hovind video where, irony of ironies, he is accused of doing everything Gail Riplinger accused me of doing—which he himself repeated and promoted! Well, what goes around comes around, as they say. Then we got to the phones and covered a wide variety of topics, from impeccability to John 12:39 and the deity of Christ to annihilationism, Titus 2:11, relationships with Muslims, and Luke 7:30 and free will. A little something for everyone!

Today we did a Road Trip DL in the rain up here in Colorado, focusing upon the I Am sayings of Jesus and using them as an example of what believing, exegesis looks like in contrast with modern methods, or the supposedly superior "pre-modern" method seen in Scholasticism, etc. Tomorrow we will be doing on "Open Zoom" program with your questions!

Started off with a little ministry report from the G3 Conference and my time in Pennsylvania. Then we talked a little bit about the Master's Seminary controversy, then about the debate from Saturday afternoon, and finished up with a response to Costi Hinn about
Doug Wilson and Michael Brown. An hour and twenty minutes.

Pastor Jeff Durbin, of Apologia Church, took over the Dividing Line. Jeff spends time discussing the history of the Pro-life movement and his own personal history of getting involved in ministry at the abortion-mills. He plays through a clip of an encounter he had while ministering outside of a clinic in Tempe and he talks a bit about how he believes we should move forward as local churches in this area.
