I have really enjoyed using this Lux Hiking Gear Sil Hexpeak V4a Tipi tent on my latest trip. It is available in Forest Green or Desert Brown colour and there is even a four-season version with a snow skirt. The construction is good and well stitched using a stronger fabric than some of the more well known ultralight tents available and instead is made using (40D/230T Nylon Ripstop) with an overall weight of 1.2kg. This typical pyramid / tipi single pole shelter design is very easy to erect, especially in poor weather. Teepee tents in general are historically reliable camping shelters and famous for there versatility and ease of erestion. Simply stake out the four corners, slide underneath, place the pole in the centre and add some tension. Once all your gear is in and under cover, all the other pegging points and guy lines can all be sorted out and tensioned if required. It also has a generous floor space which is great for comfort and stowing gear but can also be a drawback as a much larger area is required for pitching it, which may rule out some potential spots where space is tight or ground is very uneven. Inside there is a generous porch with room for gear and cooking if the weather is bad. The shelter can also be used on its own without the inner to create a generous space and also save weight, but most will opt for the single person inner. This adds a little extra warmth on cold nights, helps to prevent draughts and also keeps those pesky biting insects at bay. There are a number of extra options for inside including a two-person inner and a selection of bathtub footprints for use as a single skin setup where the ground is wet. I am 5' 10" and there is enough room for me to lie down on a generous sleeping pad without my face touching the inner tent. However, if you're over 6' in height then the slightly compact inner may be an issue. The beauty of this type of tent design is that it makes use of trekking poles but a rather robust dedicated pole can be purchased for an additional cost if required. Trying The Nikon Z6 for some vlogging & astrophotography. Having used my Nikon D810 as my main landscape photography camera for a little while and also originally coming from the Sony A7ii camera system I felt the need to go back to a mirrorless system. So decided to try the new Nikon Z6 paired with the Tamron 17-35 f2.8-4 lens I already owned and used for my landscape shots and also compare it with the GoPro Hero 7 Black I use for the majority of my vlogging. This would be an ideal time to test this Nikon Z system whilst going for a wildcamp out in the Scottish mountains for an overnight camp. My main concern was how it would perform for both photography and vlogging, as well as its compatibility with my existing Tamron lenses using the Nikon FTZ Adapter. My main lenses for Nikon is the Tamron 17-35 f2.8-4, and so far it has proved to be a fantastic all round lens having used it for landscapes, astro photography and vlogging. It is small light and very sharp and with the 2.8 aperture it has proven to be an amazing all round lens. The Tamron lens is also a very affordable purchase as lenses go and paired with the NIKON Z6 I have had nothing but excellent results. It is also about the same size and weight of the new Z Series equivalent which is more than double the price. For an alround photography and vlogging setup I think it is an amazing setup. Wild camping Tent Review - Nigor WickiUp 3 / Shangri-La 3 - Is it the ideal 4 season tent? After searching for months on the internet looking for the holy grail of tents I hope that at last I may have found one that ticks all the boxes. With several features that allow for different conditions and styles of camping it may be my new go to tent from now on and am looking forward to trying it out soon.! Spent ages looking at Terra Nova’s, Hilleberg’s, Tarptents, Trekkertent, Duomid, Trailstar and MSR to name a few but they all had one issue or another such as poor wind stability, condensation, weight, waiting lists, etc. So at last I think that this may be the ideal 4 seasons does it all tent for various scenarios? It is a fairly Lightweight tent system, and could be fairly ultralight if just using the flysheet and your walking poles. This offers a good design with a great space-to-weight ratio. The pyramid style design with one DAC center pole cuts weight in a big way and is supposed to offer extreme stability in bad weather conditions. Purchased the flysheet and pole setup and initially the single 'Luxe HexpeakV4' inner nest to try out the tent. plan on getting a full mesh inner from China and the proper Nigor double inner. Tent could allow for the following combinations if you do a bit of searching and sourcing. 1. Flysheet only. 2. Flysheet and single person full inner mesh 3. Fly and single person solid inner 4. Flysheet and double solid inner 5. Possible camping stove addition Features I really like. 1. Weather and wind shedding capability. 2. Multiple pole options 3. Multiple tie out points for guy lines. 4. Can use my Pacer or any other trekking poles to lower weight. 5. Ample space for kit and getting changed. 6. Easiest tent I have ever had for packing away 7. Takes up very little space in rucksack. However as with all tents it may look good on first pitch and the principles seem sound but the real proof will be in the using. Had big plans for this Vlog with several new landscape photography areas in Glencoe I was keen to visit. Ended being a very productive day with images of the mountains, river and waterfall all within walking distance of the Glencoe Ski Centre. However filming equipment issues and my limited time were against me and it has been a miracle I could cobble together this latest film. Like many of my latest films I have had issues with the quality and this was another destined to get binned. However thought of trying a slightly different format to allow me to still tell my story of the day. Let me know if you like the format and if it could be a better way of sharing my trips with you all having a mixture of in studio so to speak and out in the field. Also had the chance to learn new things in regards to Photoshop when I needed to find a way to have both a long exposure smoothed out river yet keep a tree pin sharp that was blowing in the wind. As always it was great to get out and take some photographs and was very lucky to come away with some really nice images of the trip.
