Getting Started with VMWare Workstation Player on Linux
Join me as I try my best to install VMWare Workstation 17 Player on Debian 12. I ran into numerous issues, mainly regarding dependencies that were required.
The command you can run to get everything installed on Debian is: apt-get install gcc make build-essential linux-headers-amd64
0:00 Hello Flufferschnoots 0:16 Download VMWare Workstation Player 1:06 chmod the .bundle installer file and run it 1:53 Install gcc (and syntaptic while we're at it) 3:09 Install linux kernel headers 4:16 Debugging module compilation errors 5:07 Install build-essential package 5:34 It works! 6:35 Thanks
One more Jedi Knight level to wrap up May the 4th. This is one of my favorite levels with lots of Stormtroopers to kill! The only annoying part is the reactor core but it's not too bad. Especially once you figure out you need the Blue Key.

What is Windows 10? Is it free? Are there distributions of Windows? What can it do that other operating systems can't?
Distro Delves is a series where I try out various Linux Distros (or other OSes) and give my thoughts about them at the end of the episode.
Episodes aren't meant to be comprehensive; they are short informational & opinionated reviews from a desktop user's perspective! Learn more about the series here - https://distrodelves.io/faq

Let's talk about Wine & SteamPlay and how it compares to running Windows 10 inside VMware Player for Linux Gaming.
SteamPlay is a few features built into the Steam on Linux. It makes it so you no longer need Lutris or Play On Linux to run your favorite Steam Windows Games because, with Steam Play, they are built into your normal games library in Steam!
SteamPlay is *not* Wine. It is the brand-new for an open-source project called Proton which includes Wine, Dxvk, Ffmpeg, and more projects.
I've covered VMware Workstation Player in other videos but I've never compared gaming on VMware with Wine. Attempting to use VMware as a gaming environment has it's own issues because VMware was never designed with performant 3D rendering in mind.
The bottom line is - in many cases, VMware offers better compatibility with games and applications than Wine does. However, because VMware is virtualization and Wine is not, SteamPlay is going to offer better performance in general.

There are lots of Linux distributions you can use for your Linux gaming desktop pc. One such is called openSUSE.
The Factory project is the rolling development codebase for openSUSE Tumbleweed.
There is a constant flow of packages going into Factory. There is no freeze; therefore, the Factory repository is not guaranteed to be fully stable and is not intended to be used by humans. The core system packages receive automated testing via openQA.
When automated testing is completed and the repo is in a consistent state, the repo is synced to the download mirrors and published as openSUSE Tumbleweed. That usually happens once or twice a week.
Factory is mainly used as an internal term for openSUSE's distribution developers, and the target project for all contributions to openSUSE's main codebase.
Power users, developers, and openSUSE contributors are recommended to use the Tumbleweed rolling release.
Conservative users who just need a working system ("if it ain't broke, don't fix it") are advised to stay with the current stable release.

This sounded like a fun video to make. Then came Kdenlive...
What does Kdenlive have to do with all this? Well its the video editor I use and it's a notoriously buggy piece of garbage.
Seriously though, I was moving away from Manjaro back to elementary OS and figured I could make a simple gaming benchmark video whilst doing so. Everything went fine until I had to edit the clips together.
Kdenlive crashed nonstop and apparently added some artifacting to the clips at some point during the editing process. Those weird lines you see in the video, especially during the Rust clips, were no present when I was recording the footage.
Anyway, I thought this video would be fun because Manjaro is based on Arch Linux so its a cutting edge rolling release. ElementaryOS on the other hand is based on Ubuntu LTS and is composed of mostly stale packages, including the Nvidia driver version.
Old vs New packages and drivers, what's there not to love about that?

I used to make Egee.io videos more often but I gradually stopped and focused on Linux-only content. This video was a lot of fun to make and I hope to make more.
Sorry for the grainy footage. I didn't realize my OBS was still setup for my Lenovo Legion and I needed to tweak some things for it to record better on my PB50.

The first week of May is always the time to enjoy Star Wars games and they just don't make them like the Jedi Knight series anymore.
Jedi Knight is the second in the series of Dark Forces series of Star Wars games and is the first to feature Kyle Katarn as a Jedi. The story is great and the gameplay holds up especially once you get the Remastered mod, which can be found on Moddb.

Wine is a compatibility layer capable of running Windows applications on Linux. Instead of simulating internal Windows logic like a virtual machine or emulator, Wine translates Windows API calls into POSIX calls on-the-fly, eliminating the performance and memory penalties of other methods.
Q&A:
Q: Is this Wine?
A: Yes.
Q: Is this Play On Linux?
A: No.
Q: Why don't you use Play On Linux?
A: Because I don't.
Q: Are you using GalliumNine??
A: No.
Q: Are you using CSMT?
A: Yes.
Q: How are you using the Steam Controller?
A: It is simulating Keyboard + Mouse emulation.
