Winded Voyage 3 | Episode 34 | Pipo, Eleonore & A Guy Named Guy
Why do people come to the Canaries? My brother came with his girlfriend to visit me and Galopin. The conquistadors came and conquered. Pipo and Eleonore to surf. And a guy named Guy came to say hello to me and Galopin. A follower of my Winded Voyage who wanted to see us first hand and comment face to face. It was interesting.

How I lost my dinghy in Cabo Verde Africa? There are only two ways really. Someone steals it or it drifts away. Usually it's the latter. And often is pilot error. And often it's because the pilot made a bad knot. This epiode goes through some of my errors and I offer some tips how not to lose one's dinghy. And the best way to explain this is by losing my dinghy one last time.

I am getting my groove back with Wendy. Here in this beautiful bay in another world called Cabo Verde. Where I was surgically repaired by a local surgeon and his team. This place has scarred me for life. In a positive way.

My time in Mindelo was coming to a close. It was soon time to go. I had been waiting for a few issues to get resolved. Like new glasses for Wendy which had finally arrived. It was a shock for her. We were supposed to go sailing and see new places, people and things. So good eyes are a must. We were now actually getting ready to go. So we had a few going-away parties, four to be exact! And as well, we had visitors. A couple of Vikings and fellow YouTubers, @vikingsgoingsouth. And then we sail out in the middle of the night. Would we make it?

The eternal question of shaving or not. Will I or will I not? The beard does not keep me from continuing on with Galopin's projects. It's almost the holidays and my Dear friend Daniel not only helps but is kind enough to invite me to his holiday party with a genuine French touch.

I’m sticking with my boat Galaopin. And finally we get to hoist his sail. He’s looking mighty proud. Just got to set up the reefs and we’ll be set. Then there’s the dinghy. Not an easy fix that gosh dinghy. We’ll be ready to sail soon, Inchallah, si Deus kiser, God willing

Tenerife is the biggest of the Canary Islands and the most varied in landscape. Beaches, mountains, forests, deserts and of course volcanos. Me and my cousin go forth and discover as much as we can while he's visiting me and Galopin. This island is truly a mini continent.

Words are hard to find to describe the island of Santa Antao, Cape Verde. And the trails that people have used to get around the island are nothing less that stunning. We follow a walking path around the rugged coastline for more than six hours. From the town of Punta Del Sol to Cruzinhas. An amazing foot journey along the most stunning trail ever.

Getting to really know a place is when you have gotten to really know the people. For me it's most notably Peixe. One of the first guys I met who helped me fix my outboard motor and invited us to his home over six months ago. He's with again a journey to Tarafal for Easter. There we meet more dear friends we have gotten to know, and they invite us to a big birthday party. We have to get back and the return journey is arduous, but easy with Peixe as crew. He's looking into hauling out my boat in Mindelo. But I we have to wait. So me and Nat decide to go to a sheltered cove just a few miles south of Mindelo that's known to locals, but not to passing sailors. We go and discover the hidden cove few know about.

In my opinion, there is no better way to learn about your boat and how to sail it than by doing it alone. I set out for this challenge with a 20 knot wind in my face. Heeling at close reach, I had to go to the bottom of the mast to take reefs. It was the first time I put put on my life jacket and harness. Then dropping the anchor alone in wind gusts and at night. As well as a wake up call from my friend Bix. My boat was drifting away during a powerful squall in the middle of the night! That did not stop me and Bix from going out on the town to have a good time.
