What is the "Protestant Work Ethic"? Is it Biblical? Where did it come from?
I should have known - this idolatry of "work" tracks back to LUTHER - the one that insisted on GRACE! Can you believe it? He hated the book of James for talking about faith and works - then creates a theology where people's only way to really know if they are Elect - is to WORK! Does anyone else see the irony in that?! How much of our behavior and decisions - and the way we raise our kids - is based on this "Protestant Work Ethic" that has nothing to do with working as unto the Lord - but working to prove you are Elect. It's buried deep into whole cultures now and hailed as a good thing - when in fact, it's slavery!

No, His name is NOT "Jesus H. Christ" - it was just a joke to make a point. Don't flame me! :-) He ain't Dirty Harry and I can't see how we can justify killing the LOST to save the SAVED. Yes, in the Old Testament they went to war - and God fought for them! King Hezekiah had an army of 185,000 outside the walls of Jerusalem killed by ONE ANGEL in the middle of the night. That IS real and Christians CAN call for help that has WAAAY better weapons than bullets and tanks. Maybe we should trust GOD more than Smith & Wesson.

A month or so ago you saw the video about the the 2004 Jaguar S-Type that was donated (after hitting a deer). We put some parts on it and flipped it for 1998 Lincoln Navigator! They're both worth about the same ($2500-$3000), but the Navigator is so much better for what we need - hauling trailers, hauling people, hauling stuff... and 4-wheel drive when you need it!

Now, please understsand, I don't agree with everything here. 1) They miss the point of City Church. 2) They argue for the Cessation of Gifts and Offices. 3) They argue in favor of the Baptist denomination rather than the consistent thread of beliefs. 4) They don't talk about how SUPERNATURAL the lives of the Anabaptists and others under persecution were. You have to look to other sources (like "Foxes' Book of Martyrs) for that. So I'm NOT arguing for you to go to a Baptist Church! I'm pointing out that there are SOME who trace back WAY before the Reformation. That God has ALWAYS had a Living Church - and it was NOT the Catholic or her daughters.
