NEW RENAISSANCE: Chap2 -Free Speech- Whistleblowers Assange, Snowden, Manning and the 1st Amendment
Julian Assange, Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning and Daniel Ellsberg are famous whlstleblowers that stood and still stand up for free speech.
Julian Assange is still in Belmarsh Prison in England apparently primarily because of exposing U.S. war crimes including publishing unclassified video of civilians including two Reuters journalists being killed by U.S. helicopters in Baghdad, Iraq in 2007.
Edward Snowden still resides in Moscow with no plan to return to the U.S. for exposing the CIA's techniques used to spy on the American people.
Chelsea Manning served a prison sentence that was only partially commuted by President Obama shortly before his leaving office. She released classified and unclassified information to publisher Julian Assange and Wikileaks.
The late Daniel Ellsberg never served any sentence. Because of the Pentagon Papers from the Vietnam War era he was actually declared a hero. When it comes to whistleblowers and war, the times were much different then.
It is all about standing up for free speech as described in the U.S. Constitution and the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights.
We need a new renaissance that assures free speech.
