***"The Cranberries"*** were an Irish rock band formed in Limerick, Ireland. Originally named the ***"Cranberry Saw Us"***, the band formed in 1989 by lead singer Niall Quinn, guitarist ***[Noel Hogan](https://cutt.ly/mvPT5VJ)***, bassist Mike Hogan, and drummer Fergal Lawler. Quinn was replaced as lead singer by ***[Dolores O'Riordan](https://cutt.ly/nvPYv31)*** in 1990, and they changed their name to the ***"Cranberries"***. Then, they performed their first UK tour opening for the British band ***”Moose”*** throughout a series of three weeks. “***The Cranberries***” received more letters expressing interest from ***Virgin***, ***EMI***, ***Imago***, ***CBS***, and ***Warner***, which led Hogan brothers to quit their jobs. ***”The Cranberries”*** headed back into the studio in Dublin in March 1992 to restart working on their first LP with ***[Stephen Street](https://cutt.ly/8vSpqEg)***, who had previously worked with the ***Smiths***. ***"Wake Up and Smell the Coffee"*** is ***"The Cranberries"*** fifth studio album released on 22 October 2001, their last before their six-year hiatus. This release doesn't really result in a record that will restore the Cranberries to the status they enjoyed in the early '90s - after all, there's nothing as undeniable as ***"Linger"***, ***"Dreams"*** or even ***"Zombie"*** - but it's a solid effort that feels like the true follow-up to ***"To the Faithful Departed"***, which is notable in its own way. ***"The Cranberries"*** have, in a sense, come full circle with ***"Wake Up and Smell the Coffee"***, and this may mean that in an ever-changing industry, their Celtic-flavoured alternative pop can’t go much further.
