A major anti-pipeline struggle continues in Canada, where protests have broken out across the country in solidarity with Wet’suwet’en land defenders whose sovereign land in northern British Columbia was raided last week and over the weekend by Canadian police. Dozens were arrested in the days-long raid of unceded indigenous territories, where hereditary chiefs have been in a protracted battle to protect their land from the construction of TransCanada’s 400-mile, $4.7 billion Coastal GasLink pipeline. The raids took place about 700 miles north of Vancouver and sparked outrage across the country. In Ontario, a Mohawk solidarity protest has shut down the Canadian National Railway for days, halting travel for tens of thousands of passengers. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called for a quick resolution to the protests on Wednesday. In New York, protesters on Wednesday gathered for a sit-in outside the United Nations headquarters in solidarity with Wet’suwet’en land defenders.
For more, we go to Wet’suwet’en territory, where we’re joined by land defender and matriarch Molly Wickham. Her clan, the Gidimt’en Clan, was raided last week by 60 heavily militarized officers with assault rifles and dogs. And in Toronto, we’re joined by Pamela Palmater, Mi’kmaq lawyer and member of the Eel River Bar First Nation in New Brunswick. She is the chair in indigenous governance at Ryerson University.

Dear Villagers,
The Black Snake.
Oil.
First Nations.
Standing Rock.
Mama Earth.
As many of you know, the Black Snake also known as the Dakota Access Pipeline, is trying to make its way through the sacred land of the Standing Rock Sioux in North Dakota. Right now there are thousands of people standing in protest against it’s construction. But this isn’t just about Standing Rock. To me, this isn’t about “us” and “them”. This is about WATER. This is about protecting one of life’s most vital resources for our children’s children’s children. For Black, White, Red, Yellow, Brown. All Colors. All Nations. All Tribes.
In many ways, I see that we can turn the struggle against the Dakota Access Pipeline into a blessing. A blessing that can wake us all up to the horrors of corporate greed that functions at the expense of our natural resources. A blessing to make all of us come together, no matter who we are and where we came from, to stand up and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. A blessing of learning to let go of selfishness and greed, to come together for the greater good.
“If you are a rock, stand up like a mountain.”
So here we are … trying our best to stand up.
For many of us, we can’t make the trip to Standing Rock to stand next to our brothers and sisters on the front lines. But we can stand up where ever we are to show our support and solidarity in many ways. Don’t be foolish and under estimate the power of prayer.
This song entitled “Standing Rock” is a prayer.
Written by my friend Aaron Edwards and myself, this song is inspired by the land of Standing Rock and all of the warriors out there on the front lines laying down their lives for WATER. They are mountains in and of themselves … touching the sky with their peaks of strength, love, and selfless service. But these mountains need their own water in the form of food, tents, blankets, and other materials in order to keep standing tall against the black snake. We are offering this song to help provide them with these things.
If you download this song, 100% of the funds raised will go directly to the front lines of Standing Rock to support our brothers and sisters standing up for what we believe in. You can donate as much as you’d like, be it $1 or $100 … every dollar counts.
Our love and prayers are with all people across the earth who are victims of corporate greed and power.
This one’s for you.
With love and light,
Trevor Hall

"Standing Rock"
Lyrics
To the east and west
To the north and south
Warrior Warrior
Gather every tribe
Mama needs you now
Warrior Warrior
Suits are moving in just to get their dollar
Treaties being broken no respect or honor
Listen close my friend
This is happening
Warrior Warrior
If you are a rock
Stand up like a mountain
Rise up from the earth
One Love One Message
I know that we are strong in spirit
And if you are the righteous, hear it
If you are a rock
Stand up like a mountain
Burn the sage and cedar
Spirit is the leader
Warrior Warrior
The clouds are getting heavy
Thunder Beings are ready
Warrior Warrior
Where the oil spills we cannot drink the water
Seven Generations all the sons and daughters
Gather all your friends
This is happening
Warrior Warrior
Water is Life
Life from the Water
Water is Life
Elders they taught us
Water is Life
Life from the Water

"I have to confess ... I do not love to run. I mostly do it because I still have to pass an Army physical fitness test. To stay fit, I prefer HIIT workout, yoga, surfing, snowboarding ... just about anything but running. However, yesterday was different. It was cold, around 30 degrees out, and I was glad to join 650 people in running a 5k to raise awareness and funds to help those recovering from opioid addiction. Thanks to all who came out!"
