Has it ever happened to you where you thought something was free or would be really cheap so you wanted that item? Maybe it was at a garage sale or the thrift store, and because you thought it was free, you and mediately wanted the item. But then when you learned it was for sale and it was expensive you didn’t want it, you thought, "I didn’t really need that anyways it’s not important." Because many people treat God like this they will never receive the Holy Spirit, they will never receive God. Our God is not a cheap freebie. He is not a garage sale item or thrift store toy or trinket. Our God is the one true Living God who gives us our daily bread and all our needs. He is life and He is our sustenance. Without Him we are nothing. Many people only want God if He is cheap easy to get and free. And when they pray they pray in such a way where they think that they will receive God as they would something free. But when they learn that they don’t hear Him immediately, that He won’t give them whatever they want, when they learn it’s expensive and they have to give their whole life, everything they own and everything they are, then they realize, "well I don’t really want that. I don’t really want God." It's too expensive. I don’t really want to have to lay down my life, I don’t want to have to count the cost. For this reason many people will not follow Jesus Christ. They think when they hear that the gospel is a free gift, that salvation is free and they hear all the Christians talking about this Grace that’s so easy to receive from God, they think that God is easy to achieve, that all they have to do is pray one prayer, their saved, they can continue living life the way they want. But what they don’t take into consideration is that parable that Jesus taught about how someone who builds a tower or if someone is going to go into battle, that they have to count that cost first, and of they don't count the cost then everyone will make fun of them. Christians who do not count the cost are all excited to follow Jesus one minute, and then the next day they’re back in the world. They’re back to all the things of the world, they’re not serious. And if we are not serious to go with Jesus, to lay down our life every single day then we have no business being a disciple we have no business following Jesus. Our God is not a cheap freebie. It will cost us everything to follow Him. Don’t be deceived thinking that your salvation is free and easy and that you don’t really have to do anything. Satan mixes this truth about salvation being free with a lie that says you don’t have to have works of righteousness, you don’t have to truly repent, you don’t have to lay down your life… “because after all it’s free brother"… “there’s nothing you have to do, God's not going to love you any more or any less…”. “Just believe”.. it’s that fake easy believism gospel. But Jesus said that we have to endure to the very end, that we have to lay down our life, that we have to lose our life to save it and if we try to save out life we’re going to lose it, so don’t believe this fake gospel that you’re just easily saved without doing anything, that you don’t need works… The devil has twisted this from the beginning. The devil is the father of lies, and many Christians follow after their father the devil, they don’t follow after Jesus Christ. We need to set in our hearts and in our minds who we follow, Jesus Christ or Satan. Are you laying down your life every single day? Are you denying yourself? Are you following Jesus with all your heart soul mind and strength? Or are you a lukewarm lazy Christian who thinks that salvation is just one other item that you have tucked under your belt? May the grace of Jesus be with you.
