Collapse & Catastrophe – Challenging the OSFI on Climate Risk Reporting
On Oct. 16, 2023, the Office of the Superintendent for Financial Institutions (OSFI) (which regulates all financial institutions in Canada) released its Standardized Climate Scenario Exercise (SCSE) methodology for consultation. There is ever more pressure on banks, financial institutions and corporations to report on climate risks related to their investments and operations. Thus, the OSFI developed this mathematical model that all financial institutions will have to use for reporting climate risk. They tell financial institutions that: “The SCSE aims to measure climate risks that are arguably not reflected using traditional risk quantification techniques, e.g., models that use historical experience to measure risks." Ironically, historical experience are the principle database for financial investments and risk assessment. Why would this useful information be set aside? Unfortunately, in the new model, the OSFI employs a series of computer simulated scenarios known as the “Representative Concentration Pathways” as baseline scenarios, and one of which, the "RCP 8.5" scenario is described as 'business-as-usual.' In fact, RCP 8.5 is an implausible future scenario which includes parameters like the world having 3-6 billion more people than the UN projects for 2100; using more coal than exists on planet Earth, and burning more oil than is estimated as being recoverable. Thus, the climate risks will be wildly exaggerated and skewed. This will directly affect investment in Canada's energy security, GDP and employment. This video explainer walks the viewer through a rebuttal report that Friends of Science Society submitted to the OSFI as part of their consultation. The RCP 8.5 scenario is where the notion of a climate emergency originates. Once removed from consideration (as it is implausible) there is no justification for high carbon taxes or NetZero targets. The climate emergency is over. We do have time. See more of our work: http://www.friendsofscience.org ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsQkLerKIZY
Friends of Science Manager of Communications Michelle Stirling discusses her study "Infiltration: the effect of condoning psychologically intimidating language in a climate science peer-reviewed journal." She reviews a paper, Lewandowsky et al 2015, titled "Seepage: Climate change denial and its effects on the scientific community". The refugee crisis was intensified by EPA food to fuel polices that increased corn prices. The "Seepage" paper only the consensus position on climate change and denigrates those who dissent. An AAAS statement decries the personal attacks on climate scientists.

Is there a climate crisis? Is there a 97% 'consensus' on this? We look at the science and offer six points for your consideration and discussion:
1) Climate cycles between warm and cold
2) Warming benefits northern countries
3) CO2 enhances plant growth and crops
4) Sea levels change due to many factors
5) Warm climatic periods have more stable weather
6) Warming has economic benefits; "Climate Action" would cost more than doing nothing

Tree planting is a popular urban program with residents, but do people realize how much it costs them? Trees are not natural survivors in urban environments, and sometimes Mother Nature is even more punishing than usual. This past year's El Nino winter across the prairies will no doubt wreak havoc with the urban forest in the spring. There was a winter freeze up in the fall, as usual; then the warm El Nino winter rolled in. Tree roots were frozen while tree branches were exposed to warm, spring-like conditions. Then suddenly in January, minus 50 degree Celsius winter hit. It's likely many trees will die and will need to be replaced this spring. If you are concerned about rising municipal taxes, have a look at your city's tree-planting budget. Maybe it would be cheaper if people planted their own trees, on their own lots. When Premier Jason Kenney was elected, one of the first things he did was to cancel the Alberta government's 30% renewable program of the Notley NDP government. However, a recent article in the Narwhal shows that wind and solar developers continue to capitalize on other forms of subsidies at the federal level. Alberta is a breadbasket to the world - but our rich agriculture land is at risk by predatory developers from countries like Germany and Russia cashing in on subsidies, various tax credits through intricate corporate structures, and offering farmers multi-million dollar decades long contracts to put wind and solar farms on their land. We don't know if there is any restriction on land quality for such deal. The federal government foresees putting 10 times the amount of wind/solar into Alberta as part of their Net Zero plans. And on Dec. 15, 2022, the day this video was recorded, Bill C-235 received Royal Assent - "Building a Green Prairie Economy Act" - imposing so-called green ideology on the Western provinces. All these factors will have devastating effects on Alberta's economy as wind and solar drive up power prices three to nine times; and if arable land is not protected, we may lose the richest 'gold' we have - our arable land. There's no conspiracy here; these things are happening in plain sight, but the dots are not being connected and the mainstream media is not bringing these issues to the attention of Albertans. Canadians have many questions about climate and NetZero policies. Friends of Science Society has issued a new report, sponsored by Canadians for Sensible Climate Policy, that offers answers to the most common questions people have. "Fighting Climate Change: Can We Humans Regulate Earth’s Climate?" is a straightforward, plain language report that provides some historical context on climate targets along with insights on energy challenges and the broader picture on climate science. Ross McKitrick, professor of economics at the University of Guelph and co-author of “Taken by Storm,” invites Canadians to access “YourEnvironment.ca” to see the evidence as to whether or not climate change or global warming is affecting your community by reviewing the ~100 year temperature records from government sources.

This video is an overview of two new reports that offer a critical review of the Task Force for Resilient Recovery's "Bridge to the Future - 5 Bold Moves" which were echoed in the Speech from the Throne. In Part 1, we offer broader geopolitical context to show that a climate or energy policy suited to one part of the world, may not be suited at all to Canada. We also deconstruct the claim of a 'climate emergency'. In Part 2, we address each of the "5 Bold Moves", exploring the lack of due diligence on the part of the proponents. In short, these plans will put Canada in the poor house - penury, extreme poverty - will be the result. This outcome is unnecessary and foolish when we are rich in natural resources that all international markets want and need. We need to be grounded in reality in our economic recovery, not virtue signalling on green ideology. See the Fos Blog post:
