I have so many Madden clips for this sports spree and I distinctly remember this because I was screaming at the two teams to do something. Anything. Someone move more than 2 yards. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Juuy5lYTbbc
You'd think it would be a straight port, but it's not, so if you finished the NES game this is the perfect companion. Almost like a second quest. You really lose nothing in the translation save for a little bit of a cramped feel. You could get into situations on the NES where you were trying to balance action between two screens, but it was rare. Here, it can happen all the time and the major downside of that is that Blob can straight up shove you when he wants to be in your spot. I can see the future anxiety.

Also Gunhed, it's a visual showcase for the TG16/PCE, but it's a bit much. We've played shooters like this before where you're just drowned in powerups. Again, it takes experience to know what you're going to want and when, but my issue with this game is that it seemed a bit easy....until I bumped into a huge attack when I was watching a show on the side and was whisked right back to the start. That's...just mean.

It's on quite a few retro consoles already, but it's heading to a few more including the Neo Geo. And it's getting a sequel.
This is a very polished, well animated game that I only have minor gripes with. While I love the little metroidvania elements, I'm not really thrilled about the combat and movement. You'll know what I mean when you play it, but it feels a little too stiff. It plays exactly like a GBA game, if that makes any sense.
BUT, there's a lot of great things about this game, especially since this is on the "weaker" Sega Genesis. I only say that because it could be visually limited, despite being capable of much more. It's nice to see these new devs just disregard that legacy and do what they know can be done.

This is laughably weird, not because it is just a weird game, but the control scheme makes using anything other than a trackball kind of sad. I could have probably rigged up something for this, but I just ran with it. Forget circles with a d-pad. It's a shame, because I think this could actually be a lot of fun. I may have to figure this out.

Well, this happened. I'd love to tell you it's not as bad as it looks, but it really is. It's playable to a point, but the one-button setup has serious issues. Input lag plus a very complicated scheme make this difficult to control. You punch by tapping the fire button, but then other moves require an input of a direction and the punch button. If you hold the punch button and a direction, that seems to work better, but unlike any other version, being in a punching fight is a massive liability. Enemies will just punch through. It's also difficult to get a feel for your health because it honestly doesn't make a lot of sense. No music, no style, no tight gameplay...it's just a pale imitation. But it's the C64, so hey. You at least got a version.

I would have appreciated it more if they just leaned on bootleg Kurt Russel and Sylvester Stallone more because it's not exactly hiding its influence. No one cares when you ripoff for a video game, so just do it well.
The gameplay, though, speaks for itself. It's an adrenaline fueled romp that pretty much requires a buddy cop to join you. In fact, I'm sure that the game promoted many random pairings in the arcade just so there was a chance to have the full experience. That's awesome and I wish there were more of that in the arcades. It's a unique experience and I remember it well, although the arcades were usually empty when I came across this. I never had a player 2. Fortunately, you can play by yourself but it's just not the same.
You have a few ways of playing it and you'd be surprised how much depth that provides. One player focusing on driving allows P2 to take both light guns and blast away. You can also have one player drive and use a single gun to spray around while P2 takes a single gun. This offers a slightly different experience and each have benefits, and I'd love to see this explored in a bigger game. P2 using 2 guns promotes less accuracy and just a lot of randomly focused firepower, but P1 can focus on driving and avoiding damage from the environment or projectiles. Having one player being less precise on the driving still avoids most damage and their spraying and praying can help clear a lot of the general stuff on screen while P2 takes out specific targets like grenades or gunners. It's really neat and the better the buddy you have, the more you feel like a true action couple.

A sequel to Cyber Cross, which will be a new game for me, but I skipped ahead to this and I did something you're going to laugh at. I played without knowing how to change literally anything. Couldn't switch weapons, couldn't summon the suit...I was very confused. Turns out, you have to hit Select ONLY when your health is in the blue. I pressed Select, but not in that situation, so I played through 3 stages of the game thinking it was awful, long, repetetive, and poorly designed. I still didn't die, though, becaause it just took a little more attention to health pickups.
Turns out, the game is only slightly better with the suit. It's really just "charge forward and mash the attack button. When boss turns up, walk up to it and mash the attack button." The only thing that changed was that the hitbox of the suit weapons was bigger, making it quicker to get to the boss. That is it. I get what they were going for, but there's absolutely nothing to the side by side gameplay at first. It does seem to get a little, itty bit better over time, but it's not what I would call engaging.

Saw EA and then loaded up a board...immediately I was thinking that this was just some random collection of Pinball Construction Set games. Sure enough, that's exactly what it is. This is the "sequel" to it and it's still made by Bill Budge. I love the Gamepro plug...it just makes so much sense being in a game like this. Kind of makes you wonder if someone from Gamepro actually designed it using the tools because it was pretty bad. I played a lot of pinball today, but this was so terrible I had to post this today. You can edit in this, but you can't save. This could be a really good fit for save states and emulators since you can actually send the boards elsewhere. That alone could give this a second life if you're not turned off by the built-in ones.

NGL it was the name that made me click it. It also has another name, Booby Kids. So it looks like they knew.
I've played this game before under a different name, but I'm at that point where I can't tell you what game it was. It's definitely something I could get into, though, provided that I have a couple of hours of practice. You can get yourself trapped in a hurry. The weapons are a nice touch, because if I remember correctly, the other game didn't let you do anything other than dig holes to fight off enemies.
