So, businesses used “no mask no service” as a way to sidestep anti-discrimination laws. Technically, they weren’t discriminating against unhealthy groups, they were discriminating against people who didn’t have masks. It just so happened that news stations broadcasted "not wearing a mask makes you unhealthy". Thus, businesses were able to maintain a discriminatory status quo, without really saying so.
