Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but...there’s a good chance you’re recycling wrong. But don’t worry, you’re not alone and that’s why we’re here to push you towards the right direction.
This video shows you some of the things we're recycling wrong and educates you on ways to recycle almost anything.
The following are just a few things a lot of people don’t know about recycling:
Term to know:
Wishful Recycling: Recycling items when you are unsure if they're truly recyclable but hoping someone somewhere will figure that out for you. When non-recyclable materials are mixed in with your recycling, it can ruin the entire batch of recycling. So if you’re ever not sure if something can be recycled, give it a quick google before tossing it into a bin.
More information on what to recycle to put in your curbside bin, and what to recycle elsewhere -- https://greendesert.org/2021/03/recycling-101/

How to make the Stash Scrunchie, otherwise known as the Stashie. It’s been popping up on Twitter over this past month.
The Stashie was originally invented by an online shop named Pickle Parlour based in London, UK. Since then there’s been shops on Etsy replicating the product and selling them for similar prices around a retail value between $8 to $17 for 1 to 2 Stashies. Today we’ll show you how to make the Stashie for $2.
For this DIY the materials you will need are:
• Any fabric of your choice
Silk and satin are best for this DIY because the material is gentler on your hair and will lead to less breakage.
• Scissors
• Regular hair ties
This will go on the inside of the scrunchie
• A zipper or you can use velcro
• A ruler or measuring tape
• A hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
• 1 candle
Once you have all your materials gathered, follow the below steps…
1. Cut your fabric to be 16 to 18 inches in length by 3 to 4 inches in width
2. Lay your fabric flat and hot glue the edge of the width
3. Garb the two edges of the width and press them together
4. Put the fabric around the candle with the inside facing out
5. Grab your hair tie and put it on top of the fabric as close to the middle as you can
6. Hot glue all the way around little by little and fold the edges of the fabric in when gluing them together. Leave a small 1 inch to 1 inch and a half section un-glued. This is the part will be turned into the pocket
7. Cut your velcro to an inch
8. Glue the velcro it to the inside part of the top part of the opening
9. Do the same for the bottom.
10. Once that dries you should be able to close the opening by pressing the velcro together
11. Now you have your very own Stash Scrunchie!
These are a great alternative to wearing a bulky purse when out and about, or at a festival or event. Not only are they cute but they double as a mini purse.
You can put anything small in them such as items like cash, chapstick, and extra bobby pins.
You can also wear them in your hair or as a cute little bracelet.
We hope you enjoyed this fun, fashionable, and functional DIY. As always if you try this DIY feel free to tag us in a picture on Instagram @thegreendesert or Twitter @TheGreenDesert and let us know how it went.
