Regarding the author, "In brief, she [Ellen G. White] was a woman of remarkable spiritual gifts who lived most of her life during the nineteenth century (1827-1915), yet through her writings she is still making a revolutionary impact on millions of people around the world. During her lifetime she wrote more than 5,000 periodical articles and 40 books; but today, including compilations from her 50,000 pages of manuscript, more than 100 titles are available in English. She is the most translated woman writer in the entire history of literature, and the most translated American author of either gender. Her writings cover a broad range of subjects, including religion, education, social relationships, evangelism, prophecy, publishing, nutrition, and management. Her life-changing masterpiece on successful Christian living, Steps to Christ, has been published in more than 140 languages. Seventh-day Adventists believe that Mrs. White was more than a gifted writer; they believe she was appointed by God as a special messenger to draw the world's attention to the Holy Scriptures and help prepare people for Christ's second advent. From the time she was 17 years old until she died 70 years later, God gave her approximately 2,000 visions and dreams. The visions varied in length from less than a minute to nearly four hours. The knowledge and counsel received through these revelations she wrote out to be shared with others. Thus her special writings are accepted by Seventh-day Adventists as inspired, and their exceptional quality is recognized even by casual readers. As stated in Seventh-day Adventists Believe . . . , “The writings of Ellen White are not a substitute for Scripture. They cannot be placed on the same level. The Holy Scriptures stand alone, the unique standard by which her and all other writings must be judged and to which they must be subject” (Seventh-day Adventists Believe . . . , Ministerial Association, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Washington D.C., 1988, p. 227). Yet, as Ellen White herself noted, “The fact that God has revealed His will to men through His Word, has not rendered needless the continued presence and guiding of the Holy Spirit. On the contrary, the Spirit was promised by our Saviour to open the Word to His servants, to illuminate and apply its teachings” (The Great Controversy, p. vii). The following is a more detailed account of the life and work of this remarkable woman who, meeting all the tests of a true prophet as set forth in the Holy Scriptures, helped found the Seventh-day Adventist church." This is Ellen White's testimony regarding a "Most Precious Message" (Christ our Righteousness) which was made prominent among Seventh-day Adventist' in 1888 by Alonzo T. Jones and Elliot J. Waggoner. This Message (strangely enough) was rejected by two of the most prominent men in the denomination at that time, General Conference President George I. Butler, and longtime Review and Herald editor, Uriah Smith. Not that these men were full blown legalist, justified by their good works, but, not understanding the message, they assumed it would lead ultimately to widespread antinomianism among the denomination so it was resisted. Naturally, those who looked up to these leading men quickly followed suit.

"What you are [hearing]...is Ellen White's testimony concerning the messengers of the loud cry, as well as the message itself. The statements given here span some eleven years, and are mostly from "The Ellen G. White 1888 Materials" (referenced at the end of each paragraph as “EGW 1888 Materials”), given in chronological order. Concluding statements from other sources include, her opening address to the General Conference session in 1901, W.W. Prescottʼs testimony about Minneapolis at the same meetings, a letter written later that year to P. T. Magan, and lastly an article that she wrote in the Review and Herald, Dec 15, 1904 entitled “A Call to Repentance.” Emphases, bracketed insertions, and ellipses are used to maintain the focus of the topic at hand. We encourage the reader, if possible, to read the entire documents from which these extracts are taken. It is our prayer that this material will bring conviction to the hearts and minds of our readers, and that they will join with that third angel and the angel in Revelation 18:1 in giving the loud cry to a perishing world." "The Lord in His great mercy [writes Sister White] sent a most precious message to His people through Elders Waggoner and Jones. This message was to bring more prominently before the world the uplifted Saviour, the sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. It presented justification through faith in the Surety; it invited the people to receive the righteousness of Christ, which is made manifest in obedience to all the commandments of God. Many had lost sight of Jesus. They needed to have their eyes directed to His divine person, His merits, and His changeless love for the human family. All power is given into His hands, that He may dispense rich gifts unto men, imparting the priceless gift of His own righteousness to the helpless human agent. This is the message that God commanded to be given to the world. It is the third angel’s message, which is to be proclaimed with a loud voice, and attended with the outpouring of Hi
