In October last year, the Vivo IFEA concept smartphone was shown with a detachable camera module, which also allows the user to take pictures remotely. Afterwards, the company filed several patents for similar technology, LetsGoDigital reported earlier this month about a Vivo smartphone with a detachable camera . A Vivo phone with a mini drone camera was also discussed.
Not only Vivo is toying with the idea of making remote photography possible with a smartphone. We recently discovered a Samsung Galaxy smartphone with a removable pop-up camera – which could also be used as an S Pen.
This time, Vivo also seems to be exploring the possibilities of a detachable pop-up camera. The Chinese manufacturer wants to turn it into a double-sided pop-up camera. It's the most advanced and practical design we've seen from Vivo so far.

The year is 2020 and nearly 40% of the world still does not have stable access to the internet. That’s about 12 times the number of people in the entire United States of America that don’t connect to the internet. For a large number of them, the reason is that they don’t have access to the infrastructure necessary to get online. But that’s about to change with Elon Musks company SpaceX and their Starlink project.
Starlink is an ambitious project that aims to put nearly 2,000 small satellites into orbit by the end of 2021 to provide a globalized network of internet access. The ultimate goal is to get affordable internet to every part of the world. As Starlink provides access and the remaining 40% of the global population comes online, the fundamental cultural makeup of the internet will change.
If you think about it in terms of the technology adoption lifecycle, change is inevitable. A massive influx of new users joining the globalized digital network will redefine the meaning of digital life. Assuming Musk succeeds, the world will be significantly impacted by adding nearly half the world’s population to the web.
As the entire world gains access to the internet, we will see a wave of cultural change to preexisting digital communities as well as the formation of new digital ecosystems. The economic engine that is the internet will provide new forms of prosperity to billions of people and fundamentally alter the traditional power dynamics of the world.
40% of the World Doesn’t Have Internet Access
The world currently has a population of nearly 7.8 billion people. A little under half of them do not have regular internet access.
Those without access are disproportionately low income and non-English speaking regions of the world. Despite this lack of access, the data indicate that although there is limited access in these regions, there does exist an appetite for connectivity. This is showcased by a significant surge in mobile broadband use over the last few years.
So what does this mean to you, a person that already has internet?
As Starlink comes online and makes access possible for nearly 4 billion people, we can expect the fundamental makeup of the internet to change. That includes the language and cultural norms of digital communities. Here’s how it might happen.

As we've learned during the COVID-19 pandemic, going to school in person is how children and teens learn best. Many students also get vital resources they need to thrive at school. With a new school year starting this fall, though, many students are not yet be eligible to get COVID-19 vaccines. This leaves them at risk as SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID, continues to spread with variants that are more contagious and may cause more severe illness.
Steps to keep students as safe possible in school
To best ensure students and staff can stay healthy—and physically together in school—here are key safety recommendations:
COVID-19 vaccines
All adults and children over age 12 currently eligible for COVID-19 vaccines should get fully immunized by the start of school year. People are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine such as Johnson & Johnson's.
Face masks
Everyone over age 2 years should wear face masks that cover the nose and mouth. This is a simple, proven tool to protect students unable to get the vaccine yet or who have chosen not to get it.
When they fit well and are worn correctly and consistently, face masks are effective and safe to wear for long periods of time such as during the school day. The vast majority of children, even those with medical conditions, are able to safely and effectively wear face masks with practice, support and role-modeling by adults. Talk with your child's pediatrician about certain medical and developmental conditions that would prohibit mask use.
Physical distancing
Students should remain at least 3 feet apart within classrooms when possible. In general, CDC recommends people who are not fully vaccinated maintain physical distance of at least 6 feet from other people who are not in their household. However, several studies from the 2020-2021 school year show low COVID-19 transmission levels among students in schools that had less than 6 feet of physical distance when the school used other prevention strategies, such as the use of masks.

Where Does the Money Come From?
Credit card companies pay for rewards with revenue from two main sources: you—the consumer—and the merchants who accept their cards.
You’re likely aware of your contribution. You pay interest whenever you carry a balance on your card and fees whenever your payment is late or you get a cash advance.
But most consumers don’t know about the fees that retailers pay card issuers behind the scenes. These fees, called interchange fees, are set by credit card processing networks like Visa and Mastercard to cover both the risk and cost of processing credit card payments.1
There are more than a hundred different interchange rates that can be applied to a credit card transaction depending on the type of business, the type of card being used, the transaction amount, and whether the card is dipped, swiped, or keyed. Interchange rates include a percentage of the transaction amount plus a flat fee.
Interchange is just one type of fee retailers pay to accept credit cards. They also pay fees to the credit card networks and their merchant processing providers.
Rewards credit cards have higher interchange rates than run of the mill cards because the card issuers have to recoup the cost of paying the rewards.
For instance, if you used a Visa Signature Preferred rewards credit card to buy dinner out, the interchange fee would be 2.40% of your bill plus a 10-cent fee. So on a $100 tab, the restaurant would pay $2.50. If you used a non-rewards card, that rate might be 1.54% plus the 10-cent fee—or only $1.64.2
Interchange fees generate billions of dollars in revenue, helping to cover the expense of credit card rewards.
Take American Express as an example. The company, which is both a card issuer and a network, collected $6.6 billion in fees from merchants in the second quarter of 2019—75% of all its non-interest revenue. In the same quarter, cardholder rewards cost the company $2.7 billion.3
Burdened by interchange fees, merchants have waged a series of legal battles with card networks and issuers since the 1990s, and Visa and MasterCard have made certain compromises. In one of the most recent cases, a class-action settlement for more than $5 billion is pending.
How the Cost Is Passed on to Consumers
Merchants can try to recoup the cost of accepting credit cards, but it’s not clear how often they actually do. In recent years, they’ve won the right to assess a surcharge to customers using a Visa or MasterCard credit card, though some states have banned those surcharges. 45
Avoid Paying for Your Own Rewards
Merchant interchange fees are just one form of credit card company revenue. Rewards are also funded through the interest and fees that issuers receive from cardholders.

It was the summer of 1724, and two groups of Japanese villages were arguing over a sewage issue in Osaka. The dispute was about waste removal, but not quite in the way one would imagine. The villages weren’t arguing about whose job it was to dispose of the filth, but rather about who had the rights to collect it, keep it, and use it. Notably, the village residents didn’t consider the substance filth. They used a special term, night soil, to describe the product they were after. And they were in dire need of it.
In the twenty first century, sewage is something of a hot potato: No one wants it. Western civilizations have built expansive sewage systems, with miles of pipes underneath cities, to carry it far away. Over the past century, they’ve constructed sophisticated mechanisms of purifying water before releasing it back into the environment and annihilating or disposing the so-called biosolids. Industrialized societies have spent billions of dollars perfecting sanitation systems that remove our waste quickly and efficiently—and keep it as far away from us as possible.
Without continuous fertilizing, Japanese soils didn’t yield rich harvests.
There are valid reasons for it. When left untreated, fecal matter leaches into lakes and rivers, contaminating drinking water and causing disease outbreaks, including cholera, dysentery, and polio, along with intestinal worms and other parasites. The lack of proper sanitation facilities and treatment plants remains one of the biggest challenges of the developing world. According to a report from the American Society of Microbiology, researchers estimate the burden of gastrointestinal disease in developing countries at more than 26 billion cases per year.

Leena Khurana was 14 years old when her classmates began bullying her—and soon after, she had her first psychotic breakdown. Leena’s older sister Payal Kumar recalls how her younger sister was “an amazing girl” with a “very high IQ” who excelled in studies as well as music and swimming. Back then, the family was settled in Manchester, England, where Payal and Leena’s father K.M. Khurana worked as a doctor in the National Health Service. After her breakdown, Leena never quite recovered. She attempted suicide multiple times, experienced uncontrollable rage, and tried to run away from home.
Leena is now 52 years old and was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1983. When K.M. Khurana retired and came back to India about 20 years ago, he brought Leena with him. But with time, Leena’s condition worsened, and she had to be institutionalised. “My parents tried everything for her, and inspired by her case, my father also did a lot of advocacy work around mental health,” Payal said. Now, three years since he passed away, Payal is Leena’s primary caregiver in New Delhi. Payal has huge expenses when it comes to ensuring quality care for her sister: She has to pay for Leena’s residential facility, medication, counselling sessions, and doctor consultations. Yet in all these years she hasn’t been able to obtain a medical insurance policy for her sister.
In India, mental health care was excluded from medical insurance until the Mental Healthcare Act 2017 was passed. The law states that “Every insurer shall make provision for medical insurance for treatment of mental illness on the same basis as is available for treatment of physical illness.” Subsequently, the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India (IRDAI) directed insurance companies to immediately ensure that all of their plans henceforth should cover mental health on parity with physical health.

On iOS: iOS Devices are made only by Apple - because iOS is owned by Apple and Apple makes money by selling iOS devices and from Apps and music sold on iOS and Apple doesnt allow anyone else to manufacture iOS devices.
Android smartphones are hardware - and are manufactured by companies.
Android OS is software owned and developed by Google- and like any other software is is machine code (instructions to hardware) written by programmers.
Google while and after developing the Android OS had the choice, about how to get Android onto Smartphones and how Google could make money from device manufacturers:
Google could be like Apple - and just like Apple controls iOS 100% and Microsoft controls Windows 100% - similarly, Google could control the source code of Android OS 100% and make sure only smartphones made by Google can run Android.
Google could manufacture (or have manufactured for it by others) it’s own brand of smartphones- and limit Android OS only for Smartphones made by Google.
Google could licence the Android OS to only those manufacturers who pay Google a license fee for using Android OS.
Google could make Android OS open-source and allow everyone to use it whichever way they like.
Google could make Android OS open-source- and give manufacturers who are using Android the choice of how closely they want to work with Google- and it could charge money to manufacturers for giving them “Google Certifications” and also charge money for having Google’s teams work with the manufacturer to help make their phones of the highest quality.
Today, we all know, Google is not like Apple.
For Apple: We all know Apple uses option-1 above and doesnt let any other manufacturer make iOS devices.
For Google: Except for option 1 above - Google uses all of the above ways (2,3,4,5) to make money from Android and to maximize number of devices which run Android.
Why doesnt Google try to control Android 100% like Apple ?
Google makes 95% of it’s revenue by showing advertisements and selling advertising.
When Google started- it showed ads only on PCs and market to sell advertising on mobiles was too small- but people were slowly and steadily moving to mobile- and it was obvious that in future more and more ads will be shown on mobile devices and the business of selling advertisement space on PCs will shrink.
Google therefore needed a way to show it’s ads on maximum number of mobile devices- to protect it’s business and it’s income.
Google had proven itself to be among the world’s best, both in selling advertising space and in building software— but in the field of making computing hardware (laptops, chips but also mobile phones) and also in selling hardware devices (whether mobile devices or computers)- there were other companies who were really good at their work.
When Google first released Android - the smartphone market leaders were Nokia (43% market in early 2007) and Blackberry (15%-20% in 2008) and Apple was among the fast growing - starting from 0% and slowly conquering market of elites and rich users.
Google invested billions of dollars- and continuously kept improving Android- while still keeping almost all of Android source code open-source and downloadable by anyone.
