Death By Dub - Abundance | Color Red Music
"Abundance” by Death by Dub is an invitation to experience grandiose natural beauty in slow motion. A musical dreamscape illuminated by the lighthearted combination of a grounding rhythmic foundation, reverberant offbeats, and an airy, lustrous horn line courtesy of Scott Flynn on trombone and Drew Sayers on tenor saxophone. Painting a picture of nature at large, the echoes signal a giant space like a cathedral of trees. Towards the track's end the listener is gently pulled out of the daydream, returning to consciousness in a cozy armchair listening to an old phonograph. “Abundance” is the title track off of Death by Dub’s debut LP coming out on Color Red in 2021.

Lucas de Mulder takes a cinematic composition approach in “Come Out at Night” ft. Simon Allen and Joe Tatton of The New Mastersounds and Nate Edgar of The Nth Power. De Mulder envisioned a night driving scene where the driver takes in a new city intensely observing unfamiliar scenery and soaks in everything around them. The collaboration spurred from a summer night in Madrid where de Mulder and Eddie Roberts jammed at The Intruso Bar after a Matador! Soul Sounds performance. A few weeks later, Lucas sent Eddie a demo and was invited out to Denver for Eddie to produce his next album. This is the second single off of a full-length album ‘Feel the Spirit’ to be released on Color Red in 2020 produced by Eddie Roberts.

Bouncing ideas and edits back and forth through text messages, emails and Zoom calls was like being immersed in the creative process at the same time as being outside of it and watching it as a witness, waiting for the next episode. Track Description: Leon “Kid Chocolate” Brown delivers an uplifting message soaked with New Orleans-style soul in “Before Your Time.” After observing the state of humanity during the global lockdown from COVID-19, Brown sought to offer a silver lining shifting the perspective to revel in free time. He observed that this was a time to take leaps towards your life’s dreams as you may never have the opportunity to do so again. Collaborating with Chris Spies (keyboards), Jon Goss (tuba), and Jermal Watson (drums), Brown let the rhythm track loop while scribing down all words that came to mind when thinking about coronavirus and quarantine. The end result of this remote collaboration was finally mixed by Eddie Roberts and is a rallying cry to navigate through trials and tribulations life hands you that will help you find your way out on top.

Track Description:
Lucas de Mulder delivers a cross-continental heater with the all-star lineup he recruited for his lead single “Ginger Beat.” Featuring Joe Tatton and Simon Allen of The New Mastersounds and Nate Edgar (Matador! Soul Sounds, The Nth Power) the song packs a flavorful intensity inspired by the invigorating experience of tasting ginger for the first time—it’s upbeat, it has personality, and it fuses jazz and instrumental soul together effortlessly. In 2017, de Mulder’s group Mighty Vamp opened for The New Mastersounds in Madrid where they ended up jamming Grant Green and Boogaloo Joe Jones tunes together. Eddie Roberts and de Mulder met again a year later in Madrid during Matador! Soul Sounds tour where they not only linked at a jam session, but discussed Color Red. De Mulder sent Roberts a demo and upon listening, Eddie told him to come to Colorado and cut an album. The rest is history. “Ginger Beat” is the first single off a full-length record to come out on Color Red in early 2020.

"The experience recording this song in the studio was fun, and fresh! Joe, Simon and Nate understood very quickly the soul of the song, and after only a couple of plays, we laid it down and that was that. We had it! As soon as we recorded the song we knew it would be the first single, it represents very well the whole album.
This song has the essence of soul/jazz music. The melody has a lot of personality in the A part, and the B part transports you in time and makes you think of songs like Fancy Tree (Live at the Lighthouse, 1972) by Grant Green."
