Media personalities claim socialism didn't cause Venezuela's collapse, but it did.

“Blaming socialism for Venezuela’s riches to rags story is grossly misleading,” an Al Jazeera reporter claims.
John Oliver claims: “If you follow conservative media at all you might have seen it frequently painted as the inevitable dire consequences of a socialist government."
Oliver blames it instead on "epic mismanagement.”
But John Stossel says: “Mismanagement is what happens under socialist governments. It always happens because no group of central planners is wise enough to manage an entire economy. Even if they have good intentions, the socialists eventually run out of other people’s money.”
In Venezuela, when their socialist government ran out of money, they just printed more. When business owners raised prices to keep up with inflation, the government often took away their businesses.
Yet celebrities praised Hugo Chavez, who started Venezuela's socialism. Model Naomi Campbell visited Chavez calling him “a rebel angel.”
After Chavez's death in 2013, Oliver Stone tweeted, “Hugo Chavez will live forever in history. My friend, rest finally in a peace long earned.” Sean Penn told The Hollywood Reporter that “poor people around the world lost a champion.”
Stossel says the good news is that, unlike American celebrities, "most Venezuelans who escaped their country’s socialism do understand what went wrong.”
In Florida, reporter Gloria Alverez talked to Venezuelan immigrants, and most of them told her socialism doesn’t work. One said, “it's never gonna work.” Another man explained, “it's something that breeds and leads to other misery and destruction.”
Stossel warns that if we don’t realize that socialism is to blame for Venezuela’s destruction, “other tragedies like Venezuela will happen again and again.”

Megyn Kelly is well known for working at Fox News & NBC. Now she’s her own boss, and feels free to call out bias wherever she sees it.

Today, big media has an agenda. It’s not just, "give the news."
Fox News and a few others spin right. Almost everyone else spins left.
That’s why I’m glad we have independent journalists like Megyn Kelly.
We worked together at Fox, and then she went to NBC.
She felt pressure from her bosses to stick to a certain agenda.
Not pleasing the network got her fired from NBC.
Now she has her own podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show.
“I’m totally uncancellable,” she tells me. “That was my only mission in coming back into our business. I didn’t want a corporate overlord.”

Eight years ago, Edward Snowden revealed government secrets. He told the world that America, illegally, spies on Americans, and most everyone in the world.
Some now call Snowden a traitor. I talk with Snowden about that.

I say to Snowden, "You went to work for the government. You signed agreements saying you wouldn't talk about what you did.”
"I did sign up to work for the government," Snowden agrees. He was patriotic: "I volunteered for the army when everyone else was protesting," he notes.
But then his view of his government changed.
While spymasters told Congress and the public that the NSA did not spy on Americans, Snowden, on the inside, working for the CIA and then the NSA, could see the truth.
"I saw everything... we were capturing everything that your family is doing online, that your friends are doing online," he said.
"This became such a concern to me, that I was willing to risk a great deal to tell people," he adds.
He did risk a great deal. Now he's in exile.
"You really got screwed!" I tell him.
After all, the government officials who misled Americans are doing fine. National Security Agency head James Clapper lied to Congress, and he wasn't fired. Now he has a gig at CNN.
But Snowden, for telling the truth, is in exile.
Snowden and I discuss that in the video above.

John Stossel got an eyeglass prescription over the Internet. Should that be illegal?

Need glasses? Going to an optometrist can be a pain and waste the better part of a day. So a company, Opternative, invented an at-home test. It's cheaper and more convenient than traditional eye exams. You just need a cell phone and a computer.
But the American Optometric Association wants it banned. They say "it poses significant health risks to consumers" because "it relies on new, self-administered tests" rather than "assessment by an eye care professional."
Everyone who wants glasses should go to an eye doctor, says the association.
Is this new eye test dangerous? Or is it a cheap and efficient eye care alternative?
John Stossel takes the Opternative at-home test in Part 2 of our "Bottleneckers" series.

I love Wikipedia! I even donated to it. But I won't donate again, now that I've learned how BIASED Wikipedia has become.

No right-leaning outlets, Fox News Politics, the Daily Wire, the Daily Caller, etc… is considered “reliable” by Wikipedia. None.
But even some of the most extreme leftist outlets get a "reliable" badge -- like “Jacobin," a self-described SOCIALIST outlet.
Vox, Buzzfeed News, and Slate are also deemed “reliable” by Wikipedia. Editors may base stories on their reporting.
Why did Wikipedia become so biased? Veteran Wikipedian Jonathan Weiss tells me that the site, like academia, has been captured by leftists.
Some Wikipedia administrators even brag on their profiles, "this user is a socialist." Another put up images idolizing communist murderers Che Guevara and Vladimir Lenin.
These administrators make final decisions about what counts as “reliable," and what goes on Wikipedia.
That’s why for years, Wiki's "communism" page made NO mention of the millions killed by that ideology.
US border facilities are listed under "concentration camps,” on the same page as Wikipedia’s holocaust facilities.
Can we fix this? Wikipedia is supposed to be a site that "anyone can edit," so I made an edit. You can find out what happened in the video above.

There’s lots of pressure on kids these days.
Study, achieve, win!
So now there’s a counter movement: “Every kid’s a winner.” It sounds nice… but some people call this "the wussification of America."

Parts of America still demand that kids and vaccinated adults wear masks, even outdoors. Australia and China enforce even more tyrannical lockdowns. But now that vaccines protect most of us from serious Covid reactions, continuing such mandates is cruel.

Denmark realizes that. They recently ended ALL their Covid restrictions.
"Go Denmark. We in the United States should do the same," Economist Don Boudreaux says. The costs of restrictions now dramatically outweigh the benefits.
"We reduced COVID, through vaccination, to a fairly mild ailment," Boudreaux tells me. "We don't have to continue to upend human life in our quest to eliminate COVID, which can't happen anyway."
Covid is unlikely to ever go away. Even if all humans became free of Covid, Boudreaux points out, the virus can still live in animals. Humanity has never eradicated a virus that can live in both animals and humans.
As Denmark and other Europeans countries show, normal life can go on. Let people LIVE.
