After a brief discussion about the ongoing release of lists of clerical abusers,1P5 Contributor Stefanie Nicholas stops by the podcast today to talk about her rapid and unexpected conversion to Catholicism in the midst of the Church’s great crisis.
On today’s episode: Advent – you’ve heard that it’s penitential, but why? Do you pay it any attention? Also: the connection between the end of the liturgical year and the beginning of the new one, and the way Advent prepares us not just for Christ’s Incarnation, but the coming of the Antichrist and the Second Coming of Jesus at the end of the world.

In this episode of the 1P5 Podcast, Steve takes a look at how far the numbers have increased just one week since the last update. He also examines the situation with public Masses and other sacraments, and an issue that's going to become more and more common: priests being barred from giving last rites to patients at hospitals, because hospitals are going into quarantine mode.
At the 44:00 minute mark, Steve is joined by Fr. José Miguel Marqués Campo, a priest in Spain, where the virus is already more advanced and more aggressive measures have been taken to stop it. Together, they discuss life under lockdown and the prudential considerations for Catholics without normal access to the sacraments.
At the 1:09:00 minute mark, guest Valerie Lewis, a former health and elderly care worker and current student in the field of geriatric social work discusses issues of care facing the elderly population, those with mental health issues, and children.
This is a podcast that covers a lot of ground as the United States begins the so-called "acceleration phase" of the coronavirus pandemic.

UPDATE: Read our full report at the link. The Archbishop has now said that "he agrees fully with the Church’s teaching on abortion and that he should not have used the quotation" in question.
https://onepeterfive.com/archbishop-eamon-martin-walks-back-his-reference-to-pro-abortion-rhetoric-in-remarks-on-irish-vote/
Original Description:
Archbishop Martin, Primate of All of Ireland, told RTE news that he hopes those who had advocated a "no" vote on the repeal of protection for the unborn in the Irish Constitution would "now work very actively to try to ensure that the legislation that is passed ... allows for abortion which is rare, which is safe, and which is legal."
In comments made to 1P5, the Archbishop's spokesman, Martin Long, said that "Archbishop Eamon Martin’s words were heavily edited in the broadcast by RTÉ and these were taken out of the context for that very short prerecorded clip. The Archbishop continues to call on all people to reject abortion and to choose life ... The clip as shown does not reflect his position as he has consistently spoken out against abortion."
Catholics the world over are left to wonder in what context the Archbishop's words repeating the "safe, legal, and rare" mantra of the pro-abortion movement could be construed as compatible with the Church's teaching on the sanctity of life.
