Code Pink Advocates "Hoops, Not Bombs" at White House.
Code Pink, an anti-war women's organization known for their protests against U.S. military interventionalism and violence, organized an upbeat rally on August 21st to advocate "hoops, not bombs." While with varying degrees of expertise, people assembled to hula hoop as a way to peacefully and creatively express their dissatisfaction with the United States' military campaigns abroad as well as police militarization at home. Such campaigns include military aid to Israel, airstrikes against targets in Iraq, and many more. Lauren Clemence filmed the event, and spoke to Alli McCracken, Code Pink's National organizer, who underscored the contrast between the somber tone of some of their events and the upbeat tone of this one, while their overall message remains consistent.

Dozens of interfaith environmental protesters were arrested Tuesday morning outside the White House Tuesday morning. This is the second day of action protesting President Biden's decision to allow projects like the Line 3 Pipeline - which they say could endanger clean water and the environment - to proceed.
"The horrifying fossil fuel projects that President Biden is allowing completely go against the spirit of protecting the earth," one Hindu activist described.
Hundreds more arrests are anticipated between this upcoming Wednesday and Friday.

While activists tend to strive for a unified front, moments like this exemplify the challenges faced in the course of that task."
Activists in the same coalition calling for justice in the shooting of Andrew Brown debated with one another on the evening of May 1st in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
As a march for Brown approached its conclusion ahead of a midnight curfew, Lydia McCaskill, General of the Original Black Panthers of Gastonia, North Carolina, spotted Rev. Gregory Drumwright, a prominent NC-based civil rights leader, speaking with police at the site of a major rally taking place the next day.
While Rev. Drumwright, said that he had been at the location for nearly an hour and had only been approached by officers in the five minutes ahead of the confrontation, McCaskill's side accused him of being a "lapdog" for the police because of a willingness to communicate with law enforcement.
"I just don't understand why we're turning on eachother," said Rev. Drumwright.
