"It had become the most political insect since the Mediterranean fruit fly. Meanwhile, it was dying quietly at the center of all the drama, in the middle of the siege of Vestry Street.
It was just what everyone involved had said it would be when the announcement was made that a TriBeCa warehouse would be fumigated with a toxic gas to kill the tiny grain-eating insects hiding inside. The city had said it would take precautions, and the streets were full of precautions, in uniform."

An Asian business owner in Las Vegas reportedly wound up in a hospital bed with no recollection of prior events after falling victim to an unprovoked attack in his shop last week.
The victim was working at the back of Cloud Tea near Buffalo and Flamingo Roads when the suspect allegedly entered the business yelling anti-Asian slurs.

Heading east on Grand Street I notice several new businesses. If we could flash back to the 1980's this was a very different area. Usually would be in the news for murders and drugs. This used to be a poor man's neighborhood. Now I see people who would have had a lot of trepidation to even walk through this area nonetheless live there.
There is a clothing store here named Supreme located at 152 Grand St. Apparently if you want to shop there you have to call the store first then they will send you a text with your number on line. In the video we see a long line of men standing there waiting to go inside the store. There is also security. I will post a couple links:

"Drugstores in parts of New York City are on high alert amid a rise in shoplifting and are increasing security measures to stop theft. Cans of Spam, a cooked pork product that retails for $3.99 per 12-ounce tin, appeared to be encased in an antitheft container at a Duane Reade store in Manhattan, according to a customer who shared an image of the loss-prevention device on Twitter. "Tributes are flowing for a student who was fatally shot by a robber posing as a stranded motorist, when he tried protecting himself and his girlfriend.
Adam Simiee, 22, was driving with Mikhayla Paulus, 20, through Talladega National Forrest on August 14 when a woman - later identified by police as Yasmine Hider - asked the couple to stop.
She then allegedly asked for some assistance to get her car started, which was near by, according to a statement local police."

"Since the attack, Gomes has criticized Mayor Eric Adams for failing to keep his promises to New Yorkers and raised awareness about the ongoing crime crisis across the city.
Year-to-date subway crime is up almost 50% in New York City since 2021, according to an NYPD MTA report.
"The subway is a very dangerous place. It's hard to get protection. People are throwing each other into the tracks," Gomes said.
Six days after Gomes' attack, New York City Council Member Tiffany Cabán tweeted that "Subway violence is a one-in-a-million event" despite soaring crime statistics.
"I would say that's very ridiculous for her to say it," Gomes responded. "How could she even say that when 99% of these violence [sic] are coming from the subways? There's no help there."
