A mix between The Amityville Horror and Halloween, The Boogeyman (1980) is a perplexing supernatural slasher. There are plenty of good moments, however, there are just as many head-scratching sequences. And it goes far beyond the first one. The sequels are very more polarizing. It's a wild ride and no matter how bad these films are, they are at least better than the 2005 Boogeyman!
It’s a shame that Alone in the dark was so hard to obtain for so long because it has everything you want in a horror film. Donald Pleasence plays the doctor of the psychotic madmen. Yes, I said madmen. There are multiple psychotic killers in this. Even one of them wear a hockey goal mask, and this was 1982, the same year Jason dawned his famous mask. There are also gore effects by Tom Savini. It was directed by Jack Sholder who directed A Nightmare on Elm Street 2, Freddy’s revenge, probably the most underrated and underappreciated sequel of its time. It also has a brief appearance of Lynn Shaye who was in A Nightmare on Elm Street and the focal point of the insidious films. Alone in the dark is one part, slasher, one part home invasion and it’s all parts awesome.

Popular things get ripped off! And Freddy Krueger was popular! There was a time when Krueger was king of the world. Tv show, music, merchandising, costumes, toys, and even video games. If you were a Krueger fan, living in the 80s was a dream come true.
The success of Freddy Krueger was felt across the world and that’s why I am combing the planet to find the best Freddy Krueger rip-offs. Some of these movies rip off the plot, and dream elements or they rip off the lovable characteristics of Krueger himself. Heck, there are some films that rip off all three. You won’t believe what some of these movies try to get away with! You can call these movies rip-offs, clones, maybe you can even say they are inspired by A Nightmare on Elm Street, but one thing is for certain, they were trying to cash in on the success of the dream demon himself.

Underworld 1985 also known as Transmutations was Clive Barker's first attempt at writing for the big screen. Barker would later disown this film. Underworld has less than favorable reviews, but a poorly reviewed movie has never stopped me in the past. Let’s see if those reviews are well-founded, or if Underworld is an underappreciated gem.

There aren’t many movies like tonight’s film, There’s Nothing Out There, especially when it was released. Being a self-referential horror film in 1991 is a bonkers idea. The main character has seen every horror film and he knows every trope. The characters poke fun at all the tropes found in these types of movies. They aren’t dumb characters, in fact, they may be some of the smartest written characters in horror history… or maybe not.
There’s nothing out there was directed by then 20-year-old Rolfe Kanfesky. Rolfe was a long-time horror fan wanting to ride the coattails of directors like Sam Raimi. And Raimi’s influence is evident throughout the film. Moving and sweeping camera. Being a fan of Raimi myself, it’s always fun and enjoyable to watch this kind of inventive filmmaking.
Rolfe wanted to make a run-of-the-mill creature feature and then he got a bright idea. What if a character knew he was in a horror movie? It’s a novel concept for 1991 and since the horror market was booming in the late 80s, why not mortgage your parent's house and use all your savings to make a sure-fire hit... Well, unfortunately, the horror market crashed hard in the early 90s and the director of There’s Nothing out there found there was no audience out there for his film. Critics were relatively high on the film and the horror fans who did see the film, really enjoyed it, but no major company understood the premise and didn’t want to release it.
So should There’s nothing out there be overlooked like it was back during its release or is it a case of a great film being released at the wrong time? Is There's Nothing Out There the best horror film you've never heard of?
