The Crew 2 is a 2018 open world racing video game developed by Ivory Tower and published by Ubisoft for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Stadia. It is the sequel to 2014's The Crew. It features a persistent open world environment for free-roaming across a scaled-down recreation of the United States. The game allows players to control a variety of vehicles including cars, motorcycles, boats, and airplanes. Similar to its predecessor, The Crew 2 is a racing game. In the game, players assume control of a racer, who is trying to work their way to become successful in multiple disciplines.[1] It features a persistent open world environment for racing and free-roaming across a scaled-down recreation of the contiguous United States.[2] In addition to cars, players can control other kinds of vehicles, including airplanes, motorcycles, and powerboats. Each vehicle has its own control physics, meaning that game play is different when players are controlling different types of vehicles. Players can switch between controlling air, land and sea vehicles instantly.[3] The game features four different hub worlds, with each having their own theme and playstyle. These themes include off-road, street racing, pro racing, and free-style. Similar to the first will place a huge emphasis on multiplayer. It also features a cooperative multiplayer mode, which allows players to join any events besides "boss" events together. This mode can also be played solo with artificial intelligence.[4] As with the previous title, The Crew 2 requires a constant internet connection to play. The game's downloadable content, known as "The Motorpass", adds additional vehicles and vanity items. The game features a nonlinear story, that follows the unnamed player character as they go to become a racing icon in the United States by winning in all racing disciplines available in the game. There are four disciplines: Street Racing, Off Road, Freestyle and Pro Racing. In Street Racing, the player is assisted by Latrell Jordan. In Off Road, the player is assisted by Tucker "Tuck" Morgan. In Freestyle, the player is assisted by Sofia Valentina Herrera and her father, Emmett Lee Parker. In Pro Racing, the player is assisted by Alexis Kendrick. The Crew 2 was developed by Ivory Tower, a subsidiary of publisher Ubisoft.[6] Parts of the development was based on the feedback they received on the previous installment. One major critique was that players did not have enough freedom to explore the world and do missions. To solve the problem, Ubisoft overhauled the game's progression system and decided not to focus much on the game's narrative, which would require players to complete missions in a very specific order, and instead divided the game into several hub worlds, with each representing a unique driving style. Players can stay in these hubs to play the missions that interest them and do not need to force themselves to visit other hubs to play through missions that do not interest them. The Crew's downloadable content, Wild Run, which was positively reviewed by players, also prompted the studio to focus more on developing content regarding offroad racing.[4] As the game features a variety of vehicles, Ivory Tower also needed to improve the game's graphics. According to the game's producer, Stephane Jankowski, these new types of vehicles allow players to explore the open world with new perspectives. For instance, flying a plane means that players can see objects that are very far away. As a result, the engine had to be modified to significantly improve the game's draw distance. The engine was also updated to include other enhancements, such as atmospheric clouds and realistic vegetation.[4] The game's control was designed to be accessible but "hard to master".[7] The game was announced in May 2017 during Ubisoft's earning's call.[8] It was revealed at E3 2017 accompanied with a cinematic trailer and gameplay demonstrations. 5 July 2021 Quality of Life Improvements Introduction: With the release of Season 3, the Dev Team had the opportunity to spend some time on a few long-awaited improvements for The Crew® 2. Quality of life improvements are crucial for the health of our game in the long-run, and we felt that the community would like to know more about those coming to the game with Season 3. Live Summits: New LIVE Summit Rewards Distribution LIVE Summits are one of our most popular game modes and many of you tune-in every week to climb those leaderboards and get prized rewards. As you know the main objective of this mode is to offer a competitive PvP environment and reward players accordingly. *Thresholds are based on percentages but rounded up and displayed in hard values for more clarity. LIVE Summit accessible at Star Level Every future LIVE Summits will be accessible at Star level, our goal aims at removing as many barriers or blockers as possible for newcomers who would like to try this feature. Star Level players already have access to every discipline, it made little sense to prevent them from participating in LIVE Summits. LIVE Summit tutorial We also added a brief tutorial to the LIVE Summits to introduce the feature, let us know what you think! Additional Rewards for completing events To reinforce the involvement of every player during a LIVE Summit, we are now granting smaller rewards for completing an event. This will incentivize participation and increase rewards granted to players who did not manage to reach higher reward tiers. Stunt Mode Score Calculation With Season 3, we made a few modifications to the point calculation system in Stunt Mode. After the update, only your individual score will be taken into account, the aggregated Crew score will not be registered any longer. Crew actions such as Jump Overs or Slipstreams will continue to generate points, however any points earned by your fellow Crew Members will not be added to your individual final score. Stunt events leaderboards will be wiped to ensure that these adjustments are reflected in the rankings. Additionally, the exploit consisting of having a Crew Member leaving the event to score a very short time has been fixed. This means that all sixteen The Chase and The Hunt events will see their leaderboards being wiped as well. Performance Parts Switch As soon as you start earning Performance Parts and different vehicles, swapping them around becomes a tedious routine. Some of our most dedicated players even started farming Performance Parts for each of their favourite vehicle, to avoid reinstalling them every time. This was one of the most regular complaint from the Community and we knew that this needed to be addressed. However, this was not a simple change on our end, as we needed some development time to build and perfect a new intuitive system. Starting with Season 3 Episode 1 the new system allowing for quicker Performance Part switch should make this step quicker and easier. This system works as follows: you select a source vehicle to get Performance Parts from, then you select a target vehicle to apply those parts on. If Performance Parts were equipped on the target vehicle, these parts will be transferred to the source vehicle. We hope that you will appreciate this new system, feel free to let us know what you think of it! Checkpoint fixes This is another regular Community topic of discussion. Due to the design of our back on track system and because of the placement of certain checkpoints, some players managed to find very effective shortcuts. Some of those present in The Crew® 2 have been created on purpose and are part of the initial design of certain races and events. It is also true that many of them were unintended and were changing the way some races are played. Thanks to community feedback, and thanks to a document put together by Giron228, our Dev Team could look into those shortcuts and address a large part of these races. It is important to emphasize the community contribution on this topic, as it drastically reduced the investigation time that would have been necessary to reach a similar outcome. Our devs have changed some checkpoint placements, added new ones, placed additional props like barriers and made sure that using the back on track system is not teleporting you ahead on the track. We reviewed close to 70 different races and ended up tweaking nearly 50 of them. (the complete list of affected events will be available in the full patch notes, all these events will see their leaderboards wiped). Stock Tyres We added several tyres to your vanity inventory for free. We would like everyone to have more customisation and competitive option by improving the number of stock tyres available to all vehicles. An amazing collection of a vast variety of cars, from production models to rare and legendary cars, has been among the key DNA ingredients of Gran Turismo. The tradition continues in GT7, as it offers more than 400 cars from 60-plus automotive manufacturers around the world. More will be added to this massive total in the form of future updates. Tracks from 34 locations with 97 layouts The list of tracks that serve as the stage for all the racing action have been expanded for GT7. With the traditional mix of real-life and original circuits, GT7 features tracks in 34 different locations with 97 unique layouts. Classic series circuits such as Trial Mountain, Deep Forest, and High Speed Ring are making a comeback, updated to the latest technology. Also, additional tracks are also planned to be added with future updates. Venture into a car-themed resort The fan-favorite World Map is coming back to the series with GT7. This time, it's taking the form of a resort where players can enjoy their car life, as well as use it as a menu to get direct access to the various features of the game. The first thing that players will do in this world is buy a compact car with their initial credits. Building from there, they will take on challenges in the form of races and various events to work their way up to obtain faster cars and rewards. They'll also be able to tune and upgrade their original cars to become faster as they progress through the game. Using the "Garage" as a home base for storing their cars, players can venture out to the car resort to discover more about the automobile and its history. The Café: A place to discover car history and culture At the Café, players receive Menu Books, which provide quests that guides them through the many locations of this car resort. The Menu Book is at the center of the GT7 experience, assisting players in collecting cars. After completing a book, players can listen to a curated description of their newly acquired cars, and sometimes even meet the designers who were involved in their creation! The game is designed so that players will naturally interact with the history and culture of the automobile through the Menu Books. Three Car Dealerships Car Dealerships are where cars can be purchased in the game. In GT7, players will progress through the game using three different dealerships depending on their objectives. One of these dealerships is Brand Central, where vehicles produced in 2001 and after can be found. Roughly 300 cars are available, and in the dedicated Museum section within a brand, players can learn more about their history. At the Used Car Dealership, players can purchase used cars at a more reasonable price than something brand new. That said, there are some models, such as Japanese sports cars from the 1990s that command a premium price, usually well above their original sticker. The used car lineup is planned to be updated every day.Finally, there's the Legendary Car Dealership that offers rare and iconic cars with high historical value. World Circuits: Visit and race on the world's greatest tracks World Circuits is a location where players have access to the tracks featured in GT7. From here, they can visit various circuits and take part in races and championships there, among other things. The Circuit Experience feature focuses on learning all the sectors of a track, and the Custom Race feature allows you to choose weather conditions, time of the day, number of laps, and your opponents to your liking. License Center and Missions In addition to the many races that represent the core of the GT7 experience, the game includes a variety of fun activities, such as those in the License Center. This mode acts as a driving school where players can take on short time trial challenges with the aim of obtaining Gold awards while honing their driving skills. Missions present a variety of events that are different from your ordinary race or time trial. Here, players can try their hand at Drag Racing, which is essentially racing in a straight line, or Drift Trials, where they accumulate points by showing off their sliding skills. Multiplayer feature allows you to enjoy racing with family and friends There are many features for enjoying races with other players. There is a two-player split-screen option where players can enjoy racing against family and friends in their own living room, and a Lobby where the fun can be taken online. Sport mode offers real competitive racing. And new to the series is Meeting Places, which offer a more casual form of lobbies. The Tuning Shop, GT Auto, and Livery Editor let you personalize your cars Returning to GT7 is the Tuning Shop, a place where you can purchase and install high-performance parts to increase the performance of your car.
