#24 Are you proud of yourself? (Jhootthai Maan, Garab Karat & Jih Ghat) - Salok M9 English Katha
Bhagat Kabir Ji tell us, “Do not be so proud, and do not laugh at the poor, for your ship is still out at sea, who knows what will happen?” - So why do we grow false pride in ourselves? In the worldly sense, we may be lucky to be healthy, beautiful and rich right now, but tomorrow, our lives could completely change. In this video, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji help us to realise the truth of this life, that nothing is forever.
Saloks #41, 42 & 43 of Salok Mehalla 9:
jhootthai maan kahaa karai jag supne jio jaan |
Why do you take such false pride in yourself? You must know that the world is just a dream.
in mai kachh tero nehee naanak kehio bakhaan |41|
None of this is yours; Nanak proclaims this truth.

garab karat hai deh ko binsai chhin mai meet |
You are so proud of your body; it shall perish in an instant, my friend.
That mortal who chants the Praises of Vaheguru, O Nanak, conquers the world.

jih ghatt simran raam ko so nar muktaa jaan |
That person, who meditates in remembrance on Vaheguru in their heart is liberated: know this well.
tih nar har antar nehee naanak saachee maan |43|
There is no difference between that person and Vaheguru: O Nanak, accept this as the Truth.

Salok Mehalla 9 is a collection of stanzas written by Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji (Ninth Sikh Guru) and is well known to be hard hitting, a wake up call and sheds some reality on life. Many Gursikhs (Sikhs of the Guru) recite this Bani (prayer) as part of their Nitnem (Daily Sikh Prayers). Each episode in the series is 25-30 minutes, and Baljit Singh explains each Salok (stanza) in detail, using real life examples to give the Salok context.
