Within the montage are clips from outtakes, camera tests, and videos that never made the grade which might be why even the most ardent Nigel fan may not recognise some of the snippets shown.

The Arc Fault Detection Device… again.
Two years after my previous peek at AFDDs, I remind myself of what they are and what they do ahead of the possibility they’ll be mandated for new installations from 2022 onwards in 18th Edition Amendment 2. And yes, I know I look like a prick with that microphone, but you can hear me can’t you?

Remember folks, electricity is dangerous stuff and here I am in this video deliberately trying to make it arc and spark, flailing around exposed live parts and eschewing even the most basic PPE. That’s my risk to take for the purposes of raising a few points in this video. It doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to copy or imitate anything you see here.
Oh, and two things: I haven’t really had an affair, I was actually in the wife’s bad books for eating all the biscuits but that sounds less cool. Also, I mention about AFDD’s being mandated on “6A lighting” circuits rather than showers etc., but I’m aware the DPC has an exception for lighting in domestic dwellings. Bad example. Let it go FFS.

Oh, to look as young and sexy as the thumbnail artwork suggests! Never mind, London’s Alexandra Palace is hosting the first Elex of 2024 and it’s a case of be there or be square… or be there *and* be square. Tell you what, I’ll stick a song about circles over it to round out some of the squareness.
Linda and I survived London, although we were ejected from Wood Green’s grimy Wetherspoons which is a new low (don’t ask).
As always, some of the audio is rotten. The camerawork is also odd at times where the 360 lens was used, especially when we were at Hager’s stand. Yes, me and Hager have been in the same room together – I keep getting asked about whether I’ve spoken to them and I’m sure they keep getting asked about the perceived shortfalls of their game-changing AFDD. Sadly, despite exhibiting at an exhibition with a stand that advertises “ASK THE EXPERTS”, there are no answers here and all you’ll get from this one are embarrassed false smiles and Fat Sam’s report of their technical guy dismissing me as ‘a drunken idiot’… which, I guess, isn’t without merit.
I would like to single out CPN Cudis, Viperclip, Wohler and Kewtech as being stands where I had a particularly enjoyable chinwag with those present, not all on camera sadly, and I probably spent too much time with Kewtech as I fangirled over their gear.
Electrician’s Podcast gets name-dropped a few times, but I’m not affiliated with them in any way – let me just distance myself from their anarchy right now! I tend to tune in at half seven on a Sunday evening and join in the live chat, so maybe see you there if you’ve nothing better to do!
I must do a video about my tool theft update because although I thank Nick here for his Bosch contribution, there were many donations from the masses, so thanks all – I’m back to having a healthy load-out and I have no excuse for not doing any work.
There may be another AFDD video as I attempted to get samples from Chint, Scolmore, Garo and CPN Cudis. CPN sorted me out on the day, the others sucked a little air through their teeth and said they’d speak with their marketing people, so I guess I puckered up a few sphincters. We’ll see what happens but remember it’s not AFDDs I have a problem with, although it would be nice to see Hager’s working, it’s smart tech in protective devices which is my bugbear, and my beef with Hager would extend to any other manufacturer trying the same thing.
Cheers to all who stopped for a chat and posed for a photo – I hope I haven’t missed anyone out from the gallery on this one.

The smut is strong in this one, what with bending springs, couplers, talk of ‘length’ and even a badly packed kebab all showing up in the kind of fnarr-fnarr way that would have Sid James vigorously rubbing his flared trousers. But seriously folks, electrical fault finding is no laughing matter as this poorly presented vlog proves.
Yes, sometimes one simply cannot find the electrical fault, even if one knows where said fault may be lurking. Here, it seems to be a recent failure of a cable buried in the wall when the property was built back around 2007, but why that failure has come about now one cannot say without knocking out the brickwork. Instead, some idiot has to figure out how to get a new supply around some comical plumbing in order to get the garage back on the grid.
So, bring in a bloke who seemingly doesn’t know one end of a bending spring from his own dick-spring and maybe do yourself a favour by saving eighteen minutes of your life not watching this.
After all, and spoiler alert, the fault doesn’t actually get found!

The pitfalls of review aggregators!
As seen on Trustpilot: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/dses.uk
It seems a second TrustPilot page for Bumfluffer's Knobshine has appeared. Only the page sporting the magenta logo is genuine and accredited, the other is not affiliated (although I could claim it and merge the two, but that would involve TrustPilot's technical support who probably aren't going to do me any favours!)

My tuppence psychiatry on Dunston:
Someone such as Dunston falls into a type: frustrated with his own inadequacy, feels as though he has something to say but is too inarticulate, too much time on his hands because he lacks friends and hasn't got the attention span or intelligence to indulge in any meaningful hobbies or pastimes. He probably has (or had) a job in the electrical industry, albeit at the low end and certainly not working for himself which has left him with a chip on his shoulder as he feels he should be higher up the food chain. Dunston lacks the knowledge to be able to comment or contribute to discussion on channels such as this, so by attacking public and unprotected review aggregators, he feels like he's taking back some sort of control. Ultimately though, he isn't, and he knows such petty action is a short term hit. He's also annoyed because he wants to vent on the public stage, but he has to cower behind anonymous profiles and a VPN like a paedo. Ultimately, his nonsense is removed, his fake accounts and IP addresses are blocked and the playgrounds he uses are all disappearing. For all the time and effort, business remains unaffected, and Dunston remains a thick clot!

What happens when you lock three men and a young boy in an industrial unit deep in the ass-end of Stafford? Sounds like a Jimmy Saville BBC special from 1979, but in this case it’s just a waste of time as men do what men do when cooped up together. They set something on fire, break wind and someone ultimately gets walloped.
So, nothing new here, and certainly nothing electrical or entertaining. Look away if you’re expecting anything other than twenty-odd more minutes of your life pointlessly wasted. Although… well, be honest, what else would you do with that time outside of PornHub anyway? Didn't your mother ever tell you it would drop off if you kept fiddling with it??
I have to admit, I pressured Nick on the whole making an ingot thing, so it’s my fault the full range of PPE may (or may not) have been present on the day (I honestly don’t know what PPE is even required), so assume the alternate title of “Pricks Taking Risks” and don’t try doing the same at home.
Our thanks to Nick and Adam for their hospitality even though I had to pay twelve quid to use the M6 toll to get there, it cost me half a tank of diesel and they didn’t even buy the sausage n’ egg sandwich I went and fetched for lunch. Still, we got a stupid ingot out of ‘em, stole a few Knipex tools when they weren’t looking and left their toilet in a right royal state, so all’s even I figure.

I apologise for some auditory arsehole, we only had one microphone between four of us and, although none of us had anything useful to say, the rubbish that was spouted forth was a bit up and down in places. I meant to level the audio but I had one too many and plum forgot.
Nick may have a video on his channel in the coming days, if indeed there was anything more salvageable he picked up on his camera. Frankly, I doubt it.

The problem with trying to make a practical effect where a spaceship explodes is that one cannot simply shove a firework up its bottom, light the blue touch paper and retire to a safe distance. Well, one could do that, but one would have to be damn sure it’s all going to go swimmingly on the first take, otherwise all the bits of plastic that just got shot to bits will have to be swept up and stuck back together for take two!
So, who knew it would be this much work? Well, I kinda did as this idea’s been in the back of my hangover for three years now, so I’m bloody glad something is finally edited and done. And let’s face it, I’m not Industrial Light and Magic here, just a lowly spark whose wasting his weekends desperately trying to make his electrical videos 11% more interesting by adding silly effects.
As for the number of takes, well this little lot ain’t even all of ‘em! And there were at least two occasions where I forgot to press Record. Laugh? Why, I nearly spilled my Pimms & lemonade!
Despite some flashy cameras, the best results were obtained from my Galaxy mobile phone which had to be placed under a sheet of glass while gravity did its thang and sprinkled debris down from on high. I was rather disappointed by my Insta360 camera whose output was… sludgier... than my Samsung.
The ‘navigation lights’ were driven by a 7400 quad two-input nand gate just because I already had one made up from a previous project, although a 555 timer would have been more suitable for the PP3 battery. The 7400 is TTL, so there’s a 5V regulator also on the backside of the model. As stated, the capacitors are switchable to give a fairly even flash rate whether filming at normal or high speed. The flyby shot uses a 200uF cap, the detonation shot uses a 22uF.
Lawks-a-lawdy, did I get through some 5A fusewire! And, may I say, not all fusewire is made equal. Some blew with a theatrical shower of sparks, other brands just kinda fizzled and melted.
Of the three candidate takes, I initially went with number one, however that video got copyright stomped by YT because of the Tardis sound employed near the end of the video. Some asshole has apparently used it in a music track, so heaven forfend if anyone else ever thinks of using it! While editing to change that sound, I figured Candidate 2 was perhaps a better choice and went with that. Now the more I look at it, the more I think Candidate 3 should have been awarded the job. Still, I can’t be arsed to edit it further now. The missus is threatening to leave me if I don't stop pratting about with little spaceships!
Anyway, do enjoy seeing a mackerel tin blow up about a hundred times. The wife and I sure enjoyed it when Take 117 was underway at 1:00 AM last Sunday morning. Oh yes.

You know that old adage of giving the people what they want? Well, what you want is buried in here somewhere, but there's an awful lot of nonsense before you'll get to it.
Eco lighting is great, but well-meaning examples for the home from about ten to fifteen years ago were themselves outpaced by new technology. Join me on a trip down memory lane as I waffle on about lighting technology for far too long. Oh, and it’s even got Buck Rogers in it showing us his smooooth moves - and without a shred of irony too! Although, because of Buck’s presence, this video is blocked from viewing in the USA and demonetised. Cheers Fatso! Still, that’s YouTube. I mention this tragic event because I've heard people say in the past that these two firefighters lost their lives as a result of collapsing cables like it was a lack of forethought or even negligence on behalf of previous electrical contractors to have used plastic trunking. It's not as black-and-white as that. Have a read of the report.
