The first IPCC 'climate bible' reports showed that past climates in the Holocene had varied from warmer than today, to much colder than today, in a rather cyclical pattern. However, in one of the subsequent IPCC reports, a 'hockey stick' graph had been prominently displayed, which had a flat 'stick' that wiped out past cyclical variations, and a sharp uptick suggesting that human influence on climate was extreme and temperatures much higher than before. That hockey stick graph was hotly disputed. In the latest IPCC AR6 report - but only in the 42 page "Summary for Policy Makers", there is a new 'son of hockey stick' graph, which presents a similar imagery. Steve McIntrye from Climate Audit found both hockey sticks suspicious as they reminded him of questionable mining promotion graphs he had seen - and indeed, in the business world, famous hockey stick graphs include those of Enron and Groupon, to name a couple. We offer a brief overview of the make-up of the new 'son of hockey stick' - please see Steve McIntyre's detailed analysis. https://climateaudit.org/2021/08/11/the-ipcc-ar6-hockeystick/ and https://climateaudit.org/2021/09/02/pages19-0-30s/ ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LK2mugvoaKo
Ecojustice has taken the Ontario government to court on behalf of a group of youth #GENClimateAction kids. In this, Part 3, we assess the climate claims made in court documents, showing that they are based on outdated science, are misleading or disputed. We show that Ontario's existing Green Energy Act violates Section 15 of the Charter by imposing crippling costs on pensioners. We show that GHG reduction targets are impossible to meet due to mass immigration policies. And we show that while there is warming occurring this does not explain the cause. Ontario is not driving climate change and children should not be exploited for commercial purposes, such as the school wide activist program where Ecojustice's executive director was a board member. This would appear to be an unstated Conflict of Interest. The power point will be posted on our blog for your review. On Oct. 16, 2023, the Office of the Superintendent for Financial Institutions (OSFI) (which regulates all financial institutions in Canada) released its Standardized Climate Scenario Exercise (SCSE) methodology for consultation. There is ever more pressure on banks, financial institutions and corporations to report on climate risks related to their investments and operations. Thus, the OSFI developed this mathematical model that all financial institutions will have to use for reporting climate risk. They tell financial institutions that: “The SCSE aims to measure climate risks that are arguably not reflected using traditional risk quantification techniques, e.g., models that use historical experience to measure risks." Ironically, historical experience are the principle database for financial investments and risk assessment. Why would this useful information be set aside? Unfortunately, in the new model, the OSFI employs a series of computer simulated scenarios known as the “Representative Concentration Pathways” as baseline scenarios, and one of which, the "RCP 8.5" scenario is described as 'business-as-usual.' In fact, RCP 8.5 is an implausible future scenario which includes parameters like the world having 3-6 billion more people than the UN projects for 2100; using more coal than exists on planet Earth, and burning more oil than is estimated as being recoverable. Thus, the climate risks will be wildly exaggerated and skewed. This will directly affect investment in Canada's energy security, GDP and employment. This video explainer walks the viewer through a rebuttal report that Friends of Science Society submitted to the OSFI as part of their consultation.
The RCP 8.5 scenario is where the notion of a climate emergency originates. Once removed from consideration (as it is implausible) there is no justification for high carbon taxes or NetZero targets. The climate emergency is over. We do have time. See more of our work: http://www.friendsofscience.org

From the archive: The NEB approved the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline. Ecojustice says the NEB should not have approved the pipeline because it did not consider 'climate change'. The World Resources Institute contributed to setting three quarters of the national intended targets of greenhouse gas emissions for the Paris conference. This is undue influence from one NGO. Why is Ecojustice, an offshore funded charity, trying to block pipelines and put people out of work in Canada?

Climate change has become a polarizing issue. What should be a scientific discussion has turned into one of right-left ideology. Dr. Ronan Connolly talks about the research of his book on the topic, and that there is no ‘97% consensus’ and that those consensus surveys are flawed in their design, and potentially driven by a desired outcome. “We shouldn’t be deciding what should be a scientific issue, based on our political ideologies.”

[Version 2. To fix a typo in the original] What happens to a society when children become nothing more than a carbon footprint to be avoided? Should this concept be taught in schools? Researchers Wynes and Nicholas (2019) did a survey of climate change curricula in secondary schools in Canada. In their opinion the schools are not doing a good enough job of 'convincing' students of the 'scope and urgency' of climate change, or that 'expert agree'. They were disconcerted to find that Friends of Science materials were even referred to in some school curricula, showing examples of the 'polarized' debate on climate, which Wynes and Nicholas say does not exist. Michelle Stirling wrote a rebuttal paper that shows that not all experts agree and that Wynes and Nicholas are advocating for pink slips for teachers and humanicide for Canadians. Their previous research that suggested having one less child would 'save the planet' - particularly sad this is their view when the real polluters and emitters are things like container ships and developing nations. Friends of Science Society’s 18th Annual Event, online, is pleased to present Marc Morano, author, speaker and climate activist at Climate Depot, as our second speaker on Oct. 6, at 7pm MDT. Marc has made a name for himself at UN Conference of the Parties (COP) meetings around the world, staging his hilarious politically incorrect street theatre exposés of the hypocrisy of the green set. He has published several books on climate change, the most recent being “Green Fraud: Why the Green New Deal Is Even Worse than You Think”. Marc’s presentation “Green New Deal: The Great Regret” will review some of his previous work on the “Climate Monarchy” and “Climate Hustle” (both very popular movies) and will show the incredible contradictions inherent in climate dogma. And – as a warning – the climate activists now want you to have a personal carbon RATION. Join us on Oct. 7, 2021 at 7pm MDT for Marc Morano – and participate in the live Q&A after the presentation!

When Premier Jason Kenney was elected, one of the first things he did was to cancel the Alberta government's 30% renewable program of the Notley NDP government. However, a recent article in the Narwhal shows that wind and solar developers continue to capitalize on other forms of subsidies at the federal level. Alberta is a breadbasket to the world - but our rich agriculture land is at risk by predatory developers from countries like Germany and Russia cashing in on subsidies, various tax credits through intricate corporate structures, and offering farmers multi-million dollar decades long contracts to put wind and solar farms on their land. We don't know if there is any restriction on land quality for such deal. The federal government foresees putting 10 times the amount of wind/solar into Alberta as part of their Net Zero plans. And on Dec. 15, 2022, the day this video was recorded, Bill C-235 received Royal Assent - "Building a Green Prairie Economy Act" - imposing so-called green ideology on the Western provinces. All these factors will have devastating effects on Alberta's economy as wind and solar drive up power prices three to nine times; and if arable land is not protected, we may lose the richest 'gold' we have - our arable land. There's no conspiracy here; these things are happening in plain sight, but the dots are not being connected and the mainstream media is not bringing these issues to the attention of Albertans. Ross McKitrick, professor of economics at the University of Guelph and co-author of “Taken by Storm” explains that if you have a Computable General Equilibrium Model (such as is used for evaluating national economic trends) no one would take you seriously if you said there’d be a 15 fold increase in trade next week – they would say you have a problem with your model. However, for some reason this kind of hyperbole is acceptable when the Integrated Assessment Models are discussed vis a vis the Social Costs of Carbon. McKitrick questions how a model can be taken seriously if the results show there could be no effect, OR a total catastrophe, from just one tonne of carbon dioxide. McKitrick recommends that policy makers wait a couple of years before instituting any new policies as he anticipates the models will be revamped to be more realistic and provide better information.
