The song was composed by Morteza Neidavoud with Farsi lyrics penned by Mohammad-Taqi Bahar during the early 20th century, influenced by the Iranian constitutional revolution.
First recorded in 1927 by Iranoddole Helen, Taj Esfahani and Moluk Zarrabii, it has been embraced by generations of Iranian singers, including Mohammad-Reza Shajarian and Leila Forouhar.
Notably, Maestro Shajarian often encored his concerts with this ballad, earning it the moniker of “The Unofficial National Anthem for Iranian Freedom”. Its timeless resonance embodies Iran’s quest for justice and liberty, capturing the essence of the nation’s cultural heritage and aspirations.
