There are two ways to build muscle. You can build for strength or you can build for size.
Prioritize for strength, it has the most overall benefit to your health and quality of life.
If you're just getting started, it's best to work in the 5-12 rep ranges to get the most out of developing strength and improving movement without over-training.

Cardio isn't the answer. Using cardio to lose weight is like buying a space heater to stay warm in the arctic. It's not a good idea.
Get better at the things you want more of in life. If all you want out of life is to be able to walk on a treadmill for 45 a day then go for it.
If you want strength, independence, vitality, freedom of movement, and no physical limitations..... Functional movement and resistance training are a requirement.

While they can be great as a motivational tool to help you set some movement goals and develop habits into your routine, wearable devices are crap when it comes to giving you useful information about your metabolic health.
Fitness is about improving metabolic function. The way that you see that improvement is by the increases in what your body can do.
