Harvesting Processing and Cloning Stevia We put this video together to show how we grow, harvest, preserve and propagate stevia on our homestead.
For those who haven't herd of this plant it is a natural sweetener which can be easily grown as an annual herb.

The process of making yarn from raw wool is an interesting one. Today we are doing just that taking raw sheep wool and processing it from wool to yarn. And as an added bonus we are also taking that yarn and knitting it into kit mittens.

Growing duckweed sounds great but what you don't often read is the downsides of growing duckweed and the problems getting duckweed growing well enough to use it as a viable feed for fish and other livestock.

Getting More From Your Celery | Growing Celery At Home
Celery is a staple in a lot of recipes but its a bit on the harder side to grow successfully Its slow to grow from seed and often has sporadic germination. As an annual put and take vegetable it is not everyone's list for the garden. But if you can get some growing it is a very touch plant which can produce a lot more than just a single harvest of stalks and leaves. Celery can produce so much more!
We hope you enjoy this video and maybe think about adding celery to the garden roster in the future!

Pumpkin Pie Fill Recipe Using Green Striped Cushaw Squash To Make Tarts
Today we are in the kitchen making up some holiday treats for Christmas. This recipe is for "pumpkin pie" filling but it can be made with most sweet types of squash. Our preference is the green striped cushaw squash which is a great substitute for pumpkins and a little sweeter (tastes good on its own freshly cooked!).
A single batch of this recipe makes two medium sized pies but it can easily be adjusted.
Pie Fill Recipe:
3/4 Cup of sugar
3 eggs
1 3/4 cup of pumpkin/squash puree
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
Here are the cooing directions (we may have messed this up in the video a bit on the instructions)
Preheat oven to 425 F and cook at this temperature for 15 minutes for pie 10 minutes for tart, Then reduce heat to 350 F and cook for 30 minutes at this temperature for pie and 20 minutes at this temperature for tarts.
Thanks so much for watching!

Natural Garlic Spray To Help With Cabbage White Butterflies on Brassicas
It's that time of year where the Cabbage White Butterflies are starting to show up in numbers.
These butterflies love members of the cabbage family and they can do a fair bit of damage in a short time. So a natural solution we have found to be reasonably effective is a garlic emulsion spray.
This particular recipe comes from Jerry Bakers' Terrific Garden Tonic's book which was recommended by Pinball Preparedness. and is a little different than the mix we tried in 2021 though still based around garlic.
The recipe for this natural garlic spray is simple.
4 whole cloves
1 handful of wild mustard leaves
1 clove of garlic
1 cup boiling water
Of course this can be easily scaled up for more emulsion.
We hope you enjoy this little tip.

Today's discussion is about why we use pasture rotation for our Icelandic sheep. Pasture rotation is important on the homestead and although we are not fully there, it is getting closer every year.
