Winded Voyage 3 | Episode 28 | Sailing Around Tenerife Island
It seemed appropriate to sail around the island of Tenerife since Dan was visiting me and Galopin. Before setting off for the circumnavigation, we visit one more spectacular site named Masca. Then we get on to sailing, having a try flying the big orange spinnaker. All does not go all that well bringing down the spinnaker and our anchorage is challenging.

Rockstars come in various shapes and forms as you'll see in this episode. In Tenerife, there is always something new to see. And more people to meet. Like a young French crew who tested their sea legs on Galopin. It's always fun to take a sail in the open Atlantic Ocean.

Adele and I sail through traffic on our approach into Dakar. The girl gets off Galopin and we say good bye. She was great to have aboard. And the boat goes up on the beach. I'll be living up there for a few days. It's kinda of weird. Not for all cruisers, but great for me and Galopin.

"You'll be walking in no time", is what many people say about full hip replacement surgery. I can confirm it is correct. In this video you will see actual proof of the amazing power of modern medicine. Plus you'll get a look at what life is like in Switzerland. As well we meet a Patreon patron, proving that social media can have positive effects on us, and that it's not all that bad.

M.O.B. or Man Over Board is an exercise every sailor should practice and master. It's also something one hopes to never have to do. Our skipper Nico was adamant we get it right. It took several tries until we got right, and finally we did. It was our last chapter in our 1000M journey and the final step to get my license. I had to bring all my paperwork to the Cruising Club Suisse in Bern and got to discover the city, The capital of Switzerland. Even though it's landlocked, it was here that I would get the right to sail the oceans. A beautiful town that was hosting a street music festival. Another example that sailing is about discoveries and new experiences. This is the final chapter of Winded Voyage Season 1 and the beginning of Season 2 which will be coming soon.

Me and my boat Galopin have been wanting to sail with our friend Bruno for some time. And we got the perfect opportunity. A weekend jaunt across the Sao Vicente canal and on to the island of Santa Antao. I've done this passage on many occasions, but never with a professional skipper. And this proved to be an exceptional experience. He was familiar my boat without knowing anything about it. He easily convinced me to hoist the Spinnaker, which I rarely do in Cape Verde, which turned out to be "sailgasm". And I got to show him how we navigate these waters which I'm more familiar with and he is less. It was a wonderful experience sailing Galopin with a pro skipper. A calm, gentle experienced skipper that is also a great friend.

The medieval city Bonifacio teeters on top of tall limestone cliffs overlooking the sea on the island of Corsica. It has to be one of the most spectacular port entrances to sail into. But before arriving at this impressive sight, we left Sardinia cruising through the Madallena Arpichelago and through the busy Bonifacio Straight.

It's back to solo sailing. But before that I install my new anchor bow sprit and go off to help my neighbor crew with some guest on his boat Chica. Later I sail south to test out my Mantus anchor at Isla de Lobos. Great downwind sailing to the island and a real opportunity to get a feel of my anchor system as well as my backup plan for my computer problems. Some things are best to do alone.

Here we go, Episode 1 of Winded Voyage. Launched the day of my 55th birthday. My Winded Voyage starts with me looking for my boat, which was what convinced me it was possible to get a sailboat and just go for it. Because there are thousands of boats out there for sale, many at very affordable prices but which one is right? I began by obsessively searching on-line, then looked around what was available nearby, in landlocked Switzerland. It's just the beginning of hopefully a long Winded Voyage.

We leave Corsica behind to make a three day passage across the northern Mediterranean. Steph takes on another big tuna for a two hour fight. The passage is long and full of surprises along the way. One being a most extraordinary sunrise on the Corsican horizon.
