Our lead story: Today’s topic if fast food. On Monday, McDonald's reported global same-store sales were down 2.2% month-on-month, even worse than the already low analyst expectations for a decline of 1.7%. In the US, same-store sales fell a massive 4.6%. Same store sales have not increased since October 2013. Why is McDonald’s losing its mojo? Edward Harrison weighs in.
Then, Erin sits down with Frances Coppola – associate editor at Pieria and blogger at Coppola Comment. Frances tells us what lessons she thinks the UK and US can learn from Japan. If Japanese real wages are stagnant and the population is both aging and declining, why should we expect credit growth, higher spending or capital investment to meet that spending? Frances tells us. Frances also opines on the degree to which adding reserves to the monetary system is simulative or increases lending.
After the break, Edward talks to Warren Mosler – president of Valance Co. Inc. Warren tells us why he thinks the Saudis have moved to spread pricing that effectively turns them into price takers and gives us his take on whether geopolitics is a big factor in this. Warren also weighs in on what is happening with credit expansion and demand in the US economy.
And in The Big Deal, Edward is joined by RT correspondent Ameera David to continue the discussion on McDonald’s and the global fast food industry. Take a look!
