We use objects to show 11 and 12 as 10 ones and some more ones. We fill a ten frame and place counters below it for 11 or 12. We show how a full ten frame models 10 ones. We show the numbers and words for 11 and 12.

An explanation of how to make a simple clinometer using a drinking straw, tape, protractor, about 6 inches of string, and a small weight like a paperclip. How to use our simple clinometer to measure an angle of elevation or an angle of depression to find the height of an object. How the angle reading from the clinometer is the complement of the angle of elevation or depression. Using a tangent ratio to find the height of a flagpole.

An explanation of how slopes can be used to determine if two lines in the coordinate plane are parallel or perpendicular. We review the Parallel Lines Theorem and the Perpendicular Lines Theorem, and discuss how they can be broken into three parts. We prove both the Parallel & Perpendicular Lines Theorems by using congruent triangles in paragraph proofs. Why we might not use Hypotenuse-Leg (HL) as a reason for congruence for right triangles.

We use logical reasoning to find if shapes are flat or solid by looking at their surfaces. Two-dimensional shapes are flat. A square, rectangle, triangle, circle, and hexagon are two-dimensional shapes. Three-dimensional shapes are solid. The surfaces of three-dimensional solid shapes are flat or curved, but the whole shape takes up space. Cubes, cylinders, cones, and spheres are three-dimensional solid shapes. A cylinder or a cone can also have a flat surface shaped like an oval.

A multiple is the product of any number and non-zero whole number. The multiples of a number are the answers to multiplying non-zero whole numbers by that number. The least common multiple (LCM) of two or more numbers is the least number, other than zero, that is a multiple of all the numbers. We list the multiples in order from least to greatest. We identify the multiples they have in common. We identify the least multiple they have in common as the LCM, least common multiple. Multiplying the two numbers will give us a common multiple. But, it might not be the LEAST common multiple. If the two numbers have no common factor greater than 1, we can multiply them to find their LCM. We use a hundred chart to help us find the least common multiple of two numbers. We find the LCM of three numbers. We review GCF and LCM to make sure we don't get them confused.

A fraction can represent an amount less than one whole, one whole, or more than one whole. When a fraction is less than 1, the numerator is less than the denominator. When a fraction is equal to 1, the numerator and denominator are the same number. When a fraction is greater than 1, the numerator is greater than the denominator. A whole can be divided into any number of equal parts. As long as all the parts are all there, it will equal 1 whole. If two numbers are located at the same point on a number line, they are equal and represent the same distance from 0. We talk about denominators of one. We draw a model of a given fraction. We identify which fractions name the parts that are shaded in a picture.

We can use the strategy "make a table" to help us organize and keep track of the amount of money we have in the bank, our bank account balance. We can use a table, or ledger, to record our deposits, withdrawals, and our current balance. A checkbook is a small book that contains checks that can be filled out to make payments. It also contains a table to keep track of money deposited or checks that were written. When we write a check, we decrease the amount of money we have in our bank account. When we make a deposit into our account, we increase the balance. We use addition and subtraction of decimals to track our bank balance. We can use rounding and estimation to see if our math is reasonable. Tables are used to organize information into a format that is easy to see and understand. A format is a pattern, plan, or arrangement. We add and subtract decimals just as we would add or subtract whole numbers, by regrouping when needed. But, we must make sure our decimal points are lined up straight. Dollars are the whole numbers of a decimal and the cents are parts of a dollar as the tenths and hundredths. We solve four problems involving addition and subtraction of money.

How to classify triangles by their side lengths as equilateral triangles, isosceles triangles, or scalene triangles. Using triangle classification to find side lengths of a triangle that are given as algebraic expressions with a variable x, how some classifications can hurt together, and solving a problem that consists of finding the sides of a triangle to determine the number of musical triangles that can be manufactured.
