In this video, I talk about what the best time is to change a habit. I give you 4 ideal moments to start building new habits.
#habits #habitbuilding #habitchange
⬇️Here are the 4 ideal moments to start building a new habit ⬇️
? 1. WHEN YOU’VE HIT ROCK BOTTOM ON A LOW POINT IN YOUR LIFE.
Most people only change bad behaviors when they have hit such a low point in their lives, they can’t go any lower. They realize that there is nothing to look forward to anymore unless they change something.
They took a look in the mirror and realize that the only person who was going to change their life was themselves and that changing themselves was still within their control.
You reach the point of having nothing to lose any more because continuing the life you are living right now is not worth living anymore. It’s death or death to your former self.
I have a saying which says ‘Depression is the compression of expression.’ All the fueled up inside energy, turn against yourself, you can finally release intro a constructive expression.
? 2. IN A CALM PERIOD WITHOUT TOO MUCH STRESS.
This might sound contrary to the previous point, but it’s the best to do changes in a period where you are not stressed and anxious all the time.
Stress saps a lot of willpower and willpower is a finite resource, so you don’t want to attempt big goals and habits changes when you got a lot on your plate. The stressors will demotivate you and it will make it hard to continue. So work on yourself in a period where it will be more likely you can take small steps consistently, not give up and have incremental success experiences to make sure your new habits will stick.
The next two points are about using moments of transition. You can use these moments of transitions as a marker to start with a clean slate.
That new starting point can be two options:
1. Time
2. Place
?3. TIME
With time I mean a special event in time, starting from which you ‘ll practice the new habit. This can be the new year, your birthday, your graduation, a holiday, a breakup or any special event that marks a significant point or event in time. This way you make a decision and it’s very clear when you will start the new behavior and you ‘ll turn it into a commitment.
It might seem arbitrary but at least it’s a clear boundary and bright line that is specific.
?4. PLACE
Our habits are stitched into the environment. Anything that we do consistently and regularly and frequently becomes a habit, especially when we do it at the same place. We have so many memories of doing a certain behavior in a certain environment that it almost has become automatic.
We want to have a different starting point to start with the new you who behaves differently. This will create new

In this video, I talk about social media addiction and delve deeper into the 12 negative effects of social media addiction.
#socialmedia #addiction #badhabits
I talk about how social media addiction works, how it shortness our attention span and how it affects our productivity and sleep.
How many hours do you think you spend a day on your smartphone and social media?
If you had to guess …
The average user spends around 4 hours a day on social media.
That's 120 hours in a month.
How many times do you think you check your smartphone a day?
If you had to guess …
The average user checks their phone 87 to 157 times a day.
All that social media browsing and clicking have a huge cost on productivity.
?HOW DOES SOCIAL MEDIA ADDICTION WORK? ?
Just as with any other addiction. It triggers the dopamine system in our brain. It's almost like a slot machine. You brain anticipates receiving a reward (a like, comment or message) and you stay excited and anxious waiting for a hit.
Social media companies know this. The more of your attention they have and the longer you stay on the platform, the more advertisers can get your attention. This is how the whole platform of social media works.
?? OUR ATTENTION SPAN??
Our attention span has become …
Less than a goldfish ..
A goldfish has an attention span of 9 seconds. In 2013 our attention span was ..
8 seconds …
And remember this was in 2013, so now it's probably even less.
☠️ THE 12 NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF OUR REDUCED ATTENTION SPAN? ☠️
1. The myth of multitasking.
2. Compulsive social media refreshes.
3. Compulsive mail checking.
4. Second screen habit.
5. Lack of productivity.
6. Fear of missing out (FOMO).
7. Procrastination.
8. Memory impairment.
9. Accidents.
10. It dampens creative thinking.
11. It increases stress levels.
12. Sleep problems.
People who check their smartphone and social media before going to sleep have a much higher chance of sleep disorders. Not only from the anxious browsing and clicking and fear of missing out, but also by the blue light emitted for the electronic devices.
Especially the last 30 minutes before going to sleep seems to be crucial to get a good night's sleep.

Recently I’ve been to a funeral of an ex-colleague of mine. Reflecting on the funeral and death make me ponder about my own finite existence.
Other people will also die one day. We have so many unspoken things that we never voice and we regret it that we never said it to the person. Is there someone you want to forgive or thank or tell them how much you cared about them? Do it while you still have the chance.
We all are going to die one day. It can sound like a depressing thought, but it puts things in perspective. Death is our ultimate companion and measure of everything.
How do we want to be remembered? What do we want to be remembered for? What will people attending our funeral say about us? What did we stand for?
When you have something to die for, you will live more purposefully?
What would you like people to say about you when you die?
