Rolling Thunder Conex events were started to bring veterans together monthly to undertake a walk/hike where we can talk and listen to those that need help. Everyone is welcome to attend and support those veterans that suffer with mental health issues such as PTSD and are lonely. Giving these veterans an incentive and something to look forward too is so important and helps those veterans to feel a part of something. Cheddar Gorge is the 2nd organised event this year and the numbers that are attending have grown significantly from the first one that was staged in the Peak District. These events are designed to be held in many different areas of the UK, so in theory we are connecting to all areas. The other main reason for the CONEX programme is to promote the issues of those veterans that are being persecuted for serving in Northern Ireland during OP Banner. We are taking the message to those areas that we have designated, we engage, discuss, promote and handout leaflets to explain the issues that these Op Banner veterans are going through. Everyone can attend this event, Bikers, Foot Soldiers, Hikers/Walkers whatever part you want to play there is a place for you. If you do not want to participate in the walk that is fine, you can still attend and support or get involved with admin for the day. Diggers Ride is about supporting Digger Gardner the inspiration behind Tail End Charlie who are a volunteer force that help veterans within our communities and provide support for all Rolling Thunder’s events. Digger Gardner which many of you will now know is now at home after being in hospital for 2 months where he has been told that he only has a short time left and is receiving palliative care at home. My idea is to ride in support of this veteran that has given so much to all of us within the veterans community. It is a ride of respect, love, dedication and support for Digger and his family.
