#39 - Agilent 66321B troubleshooting and calibration
Troubleshooting of a faulty Agilent 66321B Mobile Communications DC Source from eBay. It seems like the calibration memory was corrupted somehow. After going through the calibration procedure the unit appears to work just fine.
This power supply did not regulate properly, showed extra commas on the display and started to smell after enabling the output for a while. A burnt tantalum capacitor was found on the front panel board and also some mysterious shorts on two boards: unidentified one on the power board, and one sort between two pins under a display driver chip.

This analyzer needed some servicing. The key pad had to be cleaned. And there was a hope that display focus could be improved, which did not quite happen, but it was not too bad. In the process some capacitors in the power supply were found to be bad, so all of them have been replaced.

The meter I repaired in my previous video still has a bad gas discharge display. In this video a project to build a replacement was started. Three different approaches were discussed and prototypes built using Atmel Mega 328p micro-controller. The software was written in C and assembly languages in Arduino environment.

This is a good old MIDI controller that stopped working. There seems to be a faulty PIC16F74 microcontroller in this poor thing. Replacing the chip won't help without the firmware, so this thing is hopeless unless there is a donor unit available.

Someone tossed this amplifier out with loose covers and missing screws. Apparently, this is an unfinished repair attempt. The amplifier was repaired and tested, and many details have been explained in the process.

This RF power meter was picked up on eBay as non-working, and indeed it did not start up. The problem seemed to be with the keypad on the front panel. Unfortunately, the exact cause was not found. The keypad just started working after disassembly, which doesn't give much confidence that the problem won't come back one day. Also the lithium battery was found to be completely dead, and was replaced by an equivalent FDK one from DigiKey.

This Mackie Thump speaker has a damaged woofer with a shorted voice coil. The symptom was demonstrated, and the diagnosis was confirmed by measuring the voice coil both at DC and at 1KHz. A good woofer was also measured (not the same model) to show the difference.

This speaker worked, but produced a loud hum. The fault was traced to a dead electrolytic capacitor in the power supply.

A faulty HiTech RLI-9600 9V 600mAh lithium-ion battery was taken apart. The fault was identified and fixed. A full charge and discharge test was done. Desoldering and soldering of a tiny 8-TSSOP package was demonstrated.
