A petticoat or underskirt is an article of clothing, a type of undergarment worn under a skirt or a dress. Its precise meaning varies over centuries and between countries.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, in current British English, a petticoat is "a light loose undergarment ... hanging from the shoulders or waist". In modern American usage, "petticoat" refers only to a garment hanging from the waist, a half slip. In historical contexts (sixteenth to mid-nineteenth centuries), petticoat refers to any separate skirt worn with a gown, bedgown, bodice or jacket; these petticoats are not, strictly speaking, underwear, as they were made to be seen. In both historical and modern contexts, petticoat refers to skirt-like undergarments worn for warmth or to give the skirt or dress the desired fashionable shape.
Petticoat is the standard name in English for any underskirt worn as part of non-Western clothing such as the lehenga with the sari.
Afghani kids salwar
In its strictest sense, the salwar is baggy and loose straight down the legs, and gathered loosely at the ankles. During the medieval period, people adopted the Iraqi style of salwar in Multan and neighbouring Sindh. This type of salwar is traditionally very baggy and gathered at the ankles. It is still worn by the Kurdish community in Iraq. The presence of the baggy salwar was noted by Alberuni in the 11th century A.D. and continued to be envogue between the 16th and 18th centuries C.E. in Multan

The Roller Foot can be used to sew thicker fabrics, napped fabrics, heavy knits, leather, vinyl, or any heavier weight fabrics that are difficult to feed. The foot has two sets of rollers, one large which is to the front and two small rollers at the back of the foot. This allows the fabric to pass under the foot smoothly.
Depending on your machine model, the foot may have its own shank or it may simply snap on and off the machine.
In addition, some versions of the foot are made from a non-stick material while others are metal. Regardless of the style, the feet essentially work in the same way.
The Roller Foot can be used in place of a General Purpose Foot with the added benefit of allowing most thicker fabrics, napped fabrics, heavy knits, leather, vinyl, or any heavier weight fabrics that are difficult to feed pass under the foot easily.
Installing a Rolling Foot with a Screw Driver
If your Roller Foot is a snap on style, simply remove the General Purpose Foot from the presser foot holder and snap on the Roller Foot, following the recommendations in your machine manual.
If your Roller Foot comes with its own shank, attach it by first removing the General Purpose foot and presser foot with a screwdriver.
Attach the roller foot to the shank using the same screw and small screwdriver.
To sew with the Roller Foot on leather fabrics, use a straight stitch on your Singer Sewing Machine and set the stitch length to a medium-long stitch length.
A smaller stitch may perforate the fabric causing it to tear away from the seam.
Using Paper Clips instead of pins on Leather
Tip – When working with leather, plastic, oilcloth and laminated fabrics try using paper clips instead of pins to hold the layers of fabric together as you sew. Pins will make permanent holes in these speciality fabrics.
To sew heavy knit fabrics with the Roller Foot use a narrow zig-zag stitch or straight stitch at an average stitch length.

Difference between Industrial and Home Sewing Machine
Home Sewing Machine : http://bit.ly/398XAqK
Who invented the sewing machine is the most frequently asked question in the sewing community. For a good reason. The history of the sewing machine is littered with accusations, failed attempts and some serious scandal. From narrowly escaping death to patent law suits, it’s an interesting story that demonstrates the seam-ingly humble sewing machine ruffled more than a few feathers in its infancy.
A 20,000 Year Old Art Form
The history of the sewing machine wouldn’t exist without the artistry of hand sewing. People started sewing by hand some 20,000 years ago, where the first needles were made from bones or animal horns and the thread made from animal sinew. Our inventive instinct explains the natural progression to want to improve sewing techniques and make it less laborious. Cue the Industrial Revolution in the 18th Century, where the need to decrease manual sewing in factories became paramount.
1755: The First Patent
Charles Weisenthal, a German man, was issued a British patent for a “needle that is designed for a machine.” Unfortunately, there’s no description in Weisenthal’s patent of any mechanical machine, but it shows there was a need for such an invention.
1790: The First Detailed Design
The history of the sewing machine & who invented it essentially starts here. Englishman Thomas Saint designed the first sewing machine of its kind. The patent described a machine powered with a hand crank to be used for leather and canvas. Nobody knows if Saint built a prototype, but in 1874, William Newton Wilson found the patent drawings. They were so detailed, he built a replica, proving that it did work.
Early 19th Century: Many Attempts, Many Fails
It’s worth mentioning that all early designs of a sewing machine before the first successful one, all moved the needle side to side and were powered with a winding handle.
1830: The First Successful Sewing Machine
Joy! 40 years since Thomas Saint first drew and described a machine for sewing, we finally have a functioning sewing machine. Barthelemy Thimonnier, a French tailor, invented a sewing machine that used a hooked needle and one thread, creating a chain stitch.
1830: A Riot & Near Death Experience
After the successful patent, Thimonnier opened the world’s first machine based clothing manufacturing company. His job was to create uniforms for the French Army. However, when other French tailors got wind of his invention, they weren’t too pleased. They feared his machine would result in their unemployment so they burnt down his factory whilst he was still inside. Never take your sewing machine f

30 Days Challenge : https://youtu.be/MWveFMmLseg
Hello Everyone, welcome the 1st video of 30 days challenge series video. Today we will learn about aromhole drafting and putting stop to all problems and issues that you face during drafting and cutting of he armhole.
For Collar neck design, We will take an example for 42 inch of chest size and shoulder is 15 inch for the armhole cutting.
Basic formula for armhole from 28 inch to 42 inch = (Chest size / 6) + 1.5 inch
Example chest size 42 inch, so armhole length will be 8.5 inch. This is for dress with collar only.
Front and back arm hole has to be measured separately while drafting.
At 4 inch deep we draft our boat neck, you don’t need to down the shoulder or armhole.
If you go beyond 4 inch deep for every inch drop for your dress, you have to reduce armhole length and shoulder by quarter inch (0.25 inch).
Now going beyond 42 inch chest size,
Example 48 inch chest size, with 16 inch shoulder
Armhole formula= (chest size/6) – shoulder drop(inches) = (48/6)- 0.5
Note: Above formula is valid only for 8 inch neck deep.
At the end we have two different blouse for displaying for the purpose. Showing the difference in armhole calculation and why its important.

First of all....
What is Saree Fall ???
As the name suggests, the sari fall ensures that your sari pleats fall nicely. Saree fall refers to a sturdy cotton or terry-cotton 5 inches broad and 3 metres long strip of fabric - that is sewed and attached to the hem of a saree, such that it covers the initial drape and pleats area only. Fall is attached from the wrong side of the sari, and must not be visible from the outside. The Sari Pallu and the final drape leading to Pallu don’t have the fall.
Why is a Saree Fall attached?
Sarees are unstitched reams of fabrics. On their own, many of them lack tensile strength and are, thus, prone to stretching and tearing.
The saree hem that falls near feet is liable to entangle with foot-wear or come under feet, and may keep scraping the ground and hard surfaces, when the wearer walks. This further subjects the saree hem to tearing and damage.
Also, many sarees are made in flowy, fluid, light-weight fabrics, which keep flying off, when tied. Pleating such sarees and keeping their pleats in place is quite difficult.
Saree Fall is used to take care of all these issues. The extra fabric sewed to the saree lends weight and strength, thus making a saree stiffer. This ensures easier and defter pleating, leading to a graceful fall of the saree fabric. Pleats stay in place, thanks to saree fall as it adds weight. Saree fall supports the hemline as well as the whole fabric, by fighting gravity and scratches (from foot-wear and ground).
You can stitch it by yourself in 5 minutes with your sewing machine.... :D
