Today I review the Shure PGA48, a budget dynamic mic under $50. This mic offers a very clear sound for a dynamic due to the large boost in presence and treble, which will help your voice stand out in mix. It does a terrible job at handling noise rejection, and it also isn’t the best at plosive rejection. For $34-$39 though, it is an amazing beginner option.

WARNING: I no longer recommend using a USB soundcard to connect a microphone to your computer. It has become too unreliable due to manufacturers altering the components used in their products as well as alterations to operating systems causing additional problems. The only method of connecting a microphone to your computer that I recommend is with a USB AUDIO INTERFACE that is designed specifically for that use case.

In today's Q&A episode, I answer questions about moving away from reviewing audio gear to focus on non-audio gear, removing reverb and noise from recordings made in an untreated room, microphones for ghost hunting, why I'm not a full time mic reviewer, how many mics I have, and how I'm doing.

I'm just curious what the best position is for Lavalier microphones. I've never gotten sound that I'm too thrilled with so I figured I'd try 6 positions and get your feedback.
Listening back to the raw unprocessed sound, I think position 3 is the best sounding. It has the best mix of low end and clarity from the top end without introducing too much room tone like we got in position 4.

Today I review a $13 lavalier microphone kit. This seems to be a similar built to a mic I reviewed 7 years ago and it has the sam functionality. The sound is tolerable but leans towards muddy in the bass and congested in the mids. It also has a low sensitivity and sounds like it has a high self noise so if you're looking for noiseless recordings this will not offer it for you.
