Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4 - Part 43 8/29 More Sidequests and Bonding Events
Due to the sheer volume of things to do at the moment, we had to split the sidequests across two videos. Once we do get those out of the way though, we are free to use the bonding points we've accumulated for more events. There are more than normal, but still not enough for everything. Despite that, we make the little bit we have count as we make our last preparations before heading out for the next rivalry... ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkQ_ao-wT7g
It appears that our hero has been invited to take part in a particular contest of sorts, but he isn't quite sure if he should just yet. While he is contemplating making the effort to join, we get to spend some time with the two women in his life and learn a little more about them. Some clues are dropped to some past events, suggestions are made towards people's attitudes, and other things occur. So while there may not be a lot of action here necessarily, events still do take place.

With his army assembled, Hikari strikes at the palace. We make our way through the convenient path and ascend the palace to bring this narrative to a close. Sadly, I can't really hold back anymore, so the boss fight is a slaughter, which is going to be the norm from here until the final boss.
Overall, I wasn't too impressed by this story, and if I decide to make that accompanying video where I tear into everything, you can get the details as to why there.

I couldn't remember how to get this, and a commentor reminded me. Since I had to go back into Edo for it, I also chose to bring up the maps of the castle so I could find the Geta that I did not pick up either. Sadly, in doing so, I lost the China chapter that you saw uploaded immediately before this but coming after this in the playlist. Luckily, the chapter is quick to get through if you're skipping the scenes, so just a word of warning from how this played out.

Upon visiting the graveyard at the cathedral, we come across Nielsen who meets with us for the final time, to go over some clues relating to Guy's death. Since we did all three, we have the opportunity to come across the truth sooner rather than later, so you will be getting some bonus scenes in the videos to come.

This is a somewhat simple area we have to traverse to reach new areas to explore. However, if you want to go on a small sidequest and fight an optional boss, there is much more depth to this area (no pun intended).
Inside are 4 Brutes/Oni that are all optional bosses. You must beat 3 of them to reach the 4th, and the 4th will reward you with a Magatama (Murokumo) for your trouble, which is something you will need if you want to do the Cathedral of Shadows's sidequest.
As for the Oni themselves, this area is intended to punish people who build physically like myself with the Brute Kin-Ki. This guy has something like 90% physical damage resistance, meaning I can barely scratch the thing with my fists and I lack the magical power to hurt him that way. It also doesn't help that despite being a physical attacker himself, he has a large MP pool that Daisoujou can't empty like he can for the others. However, he is the only one who poses any resistance to my sheer strength as you see the others fold like origami.
As for the 4th, Ongyo-Ki, I do abuse the Full Kagutsuchi trick to reveal his shadow, which makes this all a lot more tolerable. If you go into the fight without full, then you are looking at one of the most difficult bosses in the game, so just a word of warning. I do not ever recommend trying to fight him like that.
With the final investigation completed, it is time to put everything we know to use as we get Eris on the witness stand. Having to cut through the half truths she weaves, we get the chance to talk to Celeste and unravel the last of the mystery. However, we will need to wager everything in order to get the complete truth...

The unlock on this one is fairly simple, but it can take some time to set up. We merely need to win in Freedom City with at least 8 unique locations in play. Both Doctor Metropolis and the environment cards count toward this total. The difficult part at times is trying to keep all of them alive.
The strategy here is to bring lots of healing, which is why Lady Liberty and Siren are here (plus I was trying to get Siren's unlock which just won't work for me). Raven can give them another power use, so as long as the cards don't get nuked from full, they can stick around. Star Knight can try to draw some fire to protect the locations, but even she has limits.
If you want to speed this one up a bit, you will want card draws (F6 Tachyon) and additional card plays (Adept), then just burn down the enemy before he has a chance to wreck everything. Since I am trying to mix things up rather than continuously show the same handful of heroes, we are a little less efficient, part of that once again being me trying to unlock Siren.

I am not sure if this segment glitches or what happens exactly. You cannot save during the puzzle rooms and I did not make a quick save or something around the battle to go back and try it again. The premise is that Lynn is deciphering a crystal and you need to protect her from the drones. Said drones are melee units, so they will rush you. Phoenix is more dangerous than them, but they are spread out enough to make things a little difficult for Icari.
After the first wave dies, a second wave will spawn. I don't know if it is time based or what, but PACT arrives, but I may have completed the mission objective before they were supposed to arrive, so we get the scene and the battle immediately ends. We get credit for killing the PACT units, so I am not sure what exactly happened there. The only thing that I can conclude is that it literally pays here to be this lethal.

There are some intermediate HR sets that can be picked up here if you're interested. Basarios makes the best middle tier Gunlance set (best on the base patch), so if you happen to be one of the few using the least popular weapon in the game, you will need to farm this until you get his gem drop (Tears).
Volvidon can be used to make the middle tier Switch Axe and Charge Blade sets. You can swap out to Almudron later, which would be the best, so it is up to you if you want it now or not.
Finally, Rathian made some of the best poison gear prior to the addition of Chameleos, but I consider poison to be the weakest status effect, so no one I know of, actually builds them. Getting some of her parts though can be used on the mixed Ian/Los set or worst case scenario, you can use them for melding.
So if you want any of those things, you are finally reaching the meat of high rank. I need to dig a little deeper for my stuff though...
