Testing the Water Wheel with an Alternator
I tested out an alternator on the water wheel. It works! It would charge the batteries as long as the batteries are close to the wheel. There are a lot of inefficiencies when using a regular alternator. The field and the voltage regulator use some power and the alternator has to spin pretty fast to produce enough voltage to charge the batteries. I need a PMA (permanent magnet alternator) to produce the power I want. In the next video I will show how I convert an alternator to a PMA.

Got a little more done on the house today. We got the second floor done and started framing the roof. I'm sure we have a few things a little off, but it seems to be holding together so far. I changed my mind about having an open ceiling up to the rafters in the living room. I saw a walkthrough on youtube in a very similar house and they had the full loft. This gives way more room on the second floor. I decided that the open ceiling wasn't worth losing all that space.

I got bored and decided to make a private monitor on my old laptop. If you look at the screen from an angle you can still see whats on the screen a little bit. It is easy to make a monitor do this. You just have to remove the polorized plastic film from the glass and cut it out to fit in an old pair of glasses.

If you have a Quest 2 and the joystick drifts this will fix it. It is a tedious procedure but can be done with a little patience. The main thing is don't get in a hurry and don't force anything. If it isn't snapping apart, try twisting the pieces differently.
I found a kit that should ship the joystick in a plastic box. The only problem is it only comes with one. They are just $11 on Amazon right now, so still just $22 to buy enough to fix both controllers. Here is a link to that.

i-picked-up-a-new(to-me)toy-davis-task
I was browsing around the Facebook marketplace and found this Case, Davis Task Force 300 trencher. I think it will come in handy around the farm. I do have about 250 feet of ditches to dig to get all the water and gas lines buried before winter. I also think it will be good for working the creek after a storm.
Everything seems to work on it except for the high range which I think is more user ignorance than any actual problem with the machine.
If anyone knows what can be done to get it into high please let me know.
I did remove the carburetor and clean it now it runs much better.

In this video, I continue working on the wind turbine for the cabin. I built blades from PVC pipe and made an arbor to hold them from square tubing. I built a frame to hold everything and put a fin on the back of the frame to help keep the whole thing pointed into the wind. I am going to need to do some finish work on the blades and put a bearing in the swivel part.
