The flying toasters is probably the best known module for After Dark, this module also has a song that plays along with captions below on the lyrics. Chrome toasters with wings fly by. Along with toasted bread, some having jam on them and others being bare.
Lyrics:
"Flying out of the sun The smell of toast is in the air. When there's a job to be done The Flying toasters will be there. And it's flap! Flap! Flap! Now help is on the way. This victory song they sing. We pop up to save the day Oh might -ty Toast -er Wings! In the bright -est day or Af -ter Dark When times of trou -ble are at hand, The Fly -ing Toast -ers set a spark And hope is blaz -ing 'cross the land! And it's flap! Flap! Flap! Sal -va -tion from a -bove A pre -cious gift they bring: Gleam -ing An -gels of Love On Might -ty Toast -er Wings!"

Screen savers in the 1990s had a purpose, to stop screen burn in. Afterdark is a screen saver application released in 1989 and produced many versions of their screen saver app up through the 2000s. I will be showing off the various modules included in this thirty year old application (Version 4.0) released in 1996. Some may remember the Flying Toasters as a screen saver. Or maybe some other, but as an early Mac user myself these all bring back memories for me.
I run the screensavers on a Windows ME virtual machine, and capture the screen using OBS. Some of the screensavers crash, probably due to emulation of the virtual machine. But others run flawlessly. The computers during the days of these screen savers only had a few hundred megabytes of RAM and few hundred megahertz of processing power. Even with these constraints some amazing screensavers were designed by Berkeley Systems and Sierra.
Making use of old food containers I put holes in them and then placed Strawberry plants and added dirt and mulch. Within a few days leaves and flowers were forming from all the sides and on top. I made this video a month or so ago and since then its produced many Strawberries.
I took rope and using knot work I made a harness for each of the containers. Watching videos online I saw how others hang pots with ropes and copied their technique. Three are hanging on top of each other. Making it easy to water them as gravity pulls the moisture down into the next container below. I still need to water them every so often when the rain does not do that for me. But seems with the mulch added it really helps them to retain moisture.
I also put Strawberries in other containers and pots. Though the Squirrels get to them and other critters. Not so much the Ants I was worried about but more of a mammal problem now. Its okay they leave enough for us at the moment.
Placing a cluster of Strawberries in the ground it will act as a control and help me see how quickly the ants take over the berries. So between all these containers I am hoping for many berries throughout the year. I am thinking June will be the big month for the berries though we shall see.
Taking the Subraru WRX out to find another challenge to do. It always trips me up when driving on the opposite side of the road from what Im used to. I find myself drifting back into the other lane. Trying to negotiate through traffic at high speeds can be difficult. I take out some fencing and landscaping nearly missing another car.
I challenge a land rover and its not much of a fair race, I make my way through traffic and head over to the next spot to do a race. Sometimes when doing these street challenges I find it takes me way off course and I have to double back after beating my opponent. That was the case with this street race. So I pull up the map and select where I want to go and head off to that location.
We make our way back and find ourselves at the Whitewater falls cross country event. I choose between the trail cat and the nissan diesel truck.
I end up going with the trail cat. I find the diesel pickup real slow. I start off the race about half way through the pack and work myself up to 5th place by the half way marker. I make my way into 1st place by the last leg of the race. And beat 2nd by fractions of a second.
Moving onto dirt racing at the derwent water trial. I select my WRX for this race. I start off in the snow and have more of it in my next Forza gameplay video.
Using coconut oil containers I cut and then heat up the sides to fold them out, giving me spots to place plants in. Strawberries is what I am planning on growing in these. And since making this video they have been doing pretty good. I made this video a few months back, and really happy with how they have been performing. I was worried they would crack or split falling apart after I modified them, luckily that has not happened and they are still holding strong.
I saw someone online do something like this but to larger containers, using what I had I adjusted my technique to these smaller containers and adding eight openings to each container gives me alot of room for plants. I heat up the wall and then once the plastic changes consistency I use a stick to press the plastic out while its hot. Doing this in a cool garage causes the plastic to then cool down and reform into the shape I want.
It takes some practice, I over heated a few of the openings and made them a little too droopy. It just makes it look funny but I dont think it affects the plants.
Using a hacksaw I cut into the side of the containers, then using sand paper I clean off the little plastic particle dust left behind. Otherwise it will burn and leave a bunch of black spots on the containers. I run my sand paper through the slit and then get to heating up the containers.
Using a camping propane tank and a brazening attachment used for plumbing. And a lighter to get the torch going.
The first container I heat up a little too much and poke through the plastic. Though as I do more trial and error helps me figure out how much pressure I need to apply.
The labels on the containers should be taken off as they tend to burn, mine could not easily be removed so I just left them.
This video is an hour long and I build four containers during this process, I think I got the hang of it near the end though still sometimes mistakes are made. Heating up too hot or pressing too hard.
There is an area of my yard that has a tropical garden, one of the oldest plants in it is this Japanese aralia. It must be approaching ten years old now and its about six feet tall. Its flowers reach out over the deck and attract all kinds of interesting bugs that feed on the flowers nectar and collect the pollen. This plant is native to southern Japan, southern Korea, and Taiwan. But I see it in the United States in many gardens. I hear they can get around ten feet tall.
The one I have grows in an area mostly protected from winds and has survived for a long time. I was not thinking it would make it so long as they claim it should not be planted in areas that fall below 5F. Well it does that that cold sometimes and the plant gets droopy but never died.
Most of my interest in the plant has been when it blooms and which insects visit the flowers. I have seen many kinds of flies, honey bees, yellow jackets, hornets and even a mosquito visit the flowers. I captured video of them using my Lumix GH3 camera and using a macro lens and tripod.
Someone asked me if the flowers have a smell, they indeed do but not a very pleasant smell. But not bad ether, the flowers look nicer than it smells. And happy to have an evergreen plant in the tropical garden, and one that insects like so much. Ants will also find their way to the flowers climbing up the stems, and sometimes they farm aphids near by which is not good for the plant. When I see that happening I spray the leaves with neem oil and usually knocks them out after a few exposures.
Looking forward to observing what other bugs come this way, and glad none stung me while making this footage. I got only a few feet away from these bugs and many of them are stinging insects. But seems when there is plentiful food, they all just hunker down and feed together and not get too aggressive.

Making breads using whole products has been a learning experience for sure. Lovely Logic has tried out many different recipes and flour methods to see what works best for making a yeast and sugar free bread. Those two things are usually crucial to making good bread, but with experience and some know how Lovely Logic will show how she makes her bread two ways.
She has narrated her video and walks us through the steps explaining as she goes about making her food.
First using 1 cup of Almond Meal, and 2/3 cup of Buckwheat, Millet and Amaranth grain. Pink salt, two eggs at room temperature setting them out 30 minutes in advance. For butter we are using unsalted grass fed butter. We are using almost milk at one cup to add to this. Setting this out as well is a good idea before starting so the milk can reach room temperature. Dont forget about them or they may spoil. We just want them to not be as cold as where they were in the refrigerator.
Using a burger bun tray to cook the dough, take the room temperature eggs and add them to a blender. Something electric would be a good idea or it may not mix well. Add the milk as well, along with the melted butter. Add the flours in and attach the top of the blender, will run in the blender until it turns into a thin batter. Its kind of like thin pancake batter.
Grease the tray using coconut oil, and pour the thin mixture into the trays. Otherwise it may be difficult to remove them once they have baked at high temperature.
A second batch is made as well, using just 50/50 Buckwheat and Almond flour. It gives it a darker texture. Using 100% of one or the other is a bit much. But mixed its much better. The recipe is the same just changing the flours. Once combined blend for about 20 seconds using a powered blender. We have a Ninja brand we use for our batter mixing. Bake at 425F for about 20 minutes and then turn the heat down to 375F for about 12 minutes.
So those are two ways to make some sugar and yeast free flour.
Fleeing from the police I spawn in an airplane. I take off on a straight part of the railroad tracks near by. I take a flight around mt chiliad and ditch my plane in a lake. I teleport myself to the top of one of the bridges in the city.
I decided to have a little fun in this location so I spawned in some advanced bodyguards. They arrive in a helicopter, and with their relationship set to hate the police they start attacking them when they arrive.
The fighter jet that was following me from the earlier fun finds its way over the bridge I am on. It launches two missiles to take out some of the police below.
I jump off the bridge to get down below where the action is going on. I decide to jump the center divider and go after the police on the bridge.
I start running down the free way but get plowed by a car and then a second one.
Using a modded grenade launcher I use the super explosive grenades option in the trainer. I switch back to the regular type and switch on rapid fire with no loss of ammo.
The fighter jet comes back around for a few more passes dropping missiles on its enemies and keeping the police at bay a little bit.
I spawn in the jet bike once I get bored of the shootout. Using its wings I can go where ever. Until I knocked it off the bridge. So I went back into the trainer and spawned another one. I crashed again this time flying off the bridge. Around this time I found where my helicopter advanced bodyguards went. They must have crashed in the water and climbed out as they were all standing on the ladder from the bay.
Having this shootout on the bridge was alot of fun, its a good spot to spawn in some other AI to have fun with. Eventhough I had god mode on, it was still fun with the advanced bodyguards keeping the cops busy as I did just whatever I want.
These trees are all sticks right now, they started to drop their leaves in early autumn and finished by winter time. I was surprised by how early the leaves dropped and initially thought my trees may have had some kind of sickness. But I have been assured that the Cherry trees just tend to drop their leaves very early in the fall season.

During the winter I have seen some spiky nodes show up on the branches and trunk of the tree. From there flowers should bloom and new leaf sets should emerge. Hoping it gets some more stem and trunk growth as its real small right now. But I only got it a year ago so I am being patient.

When the spring time comes around I am quite curious when these trees will flower, hoping they line up with when my Mason bees are out. From what I have read Blueberries and Cherries are some of the earliest blooming fruiting plants.
https://i.postimg.cc/tTqFQPRB/vlcsnap-2021-03-06-07h50m05s841.png
I have three cultivars of cherry trees, A Minnie Royal, Lapins and Black Tartarian. They all seem to be producing these little spiky nodes, so soon I should see them leaf and maybe even flower. From what I have read the Minnie Royal may blossom during a different week than the Black Tartarian or Lapins. Which may affect their ability to get pollinated, but even if I do not get fruit from one of the four Cherry trees I have it will be a good pollen and nectar source for bees. They say the Minnie Royal flowers very early on, so hoping it will for my Mason bees sake.
I recorded this video a few weeks ago and by today March 6th the spiky nodes have yet to open up, but looks like they are really close. Starting to see some green and maybe some red or pink inside of some of the unopened nodes. So I am guessing another week or so and they should be popping open. We shall see if we get flowers this year, it may just put on more growth before trying to blossom.
I moved this plant to its new location a few years back. It was being crowded by my Wisteria growing near by. I was worried that it would not be happy with the part sun it gets where its placed now. But it keeps putting on growth and producing flowers so it must be doing okay. It has yellow petals that form in the summer time. Besides my plant, I do not think this plant lives in the wild around me. Its more of a desert shrub thats found in the SW United States (TX and NM) through Mexico.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heimia_salicifolia
So Georgia would not be the first place I would expect to see transplants showing up. But regardless the plant seems pretty happy and Ill just let keep producing leaves. I tried making a tea out of it shortly after making this video, though it was way too bitter. I see some people air dry the leaves before fermenting them so maybe thats where I went wrong.
I took some cuttings of this plant and started them in the bubbler. Most of the short cuttings died but two extra long cuttings have new growth on them. Seems it does not reproduce by underground runners so I must grow them from seed or from a cutting. We shall see how well they root and if they indeed form into new plants.
I have a few other places I could put one in the ground if they indeed are okay with growing in the shade.
Arriving at one of the space stations some hostile spaceships try to get to me before I can land. Though they do not succeed as I enter the docking area. I hang out in the bay for a few minutes waiting for them to pass.

When I leave the space station they are waiting for me, so my plan is to quickly make it to the surface of the planet. I fly through a field of rocks before the planets atmosphere is reached.

Following "Strangers Coordinates" I go through the atmosphere and left right by the marker. The sun is starting to set on the planet giving the clouds and sky a colorful look to it.

I check out the containers as the base is deserted. There is also a space ship there I can claim as well, but its pretty broken and wont fly very far much outside of the planet.

Collecting some materials to at least fix one of the broken machines at this outpost. As the sun goes down I work in the dark to set up a refiner to make "pure ferrite" to make the repair.
https://i.postimg.cc/d020736M/vlcsnap-2021-03-07-12h03m21s572.png
The refiner will take many raw materials and convert them into new materials. I need to use this to convert the ferrite to pure ferrite. I need to provide the machine with carbon to make it convert materials.
I was surprised to be getting cooked on this planet after the sun has gone down. Taking cover in my ship I use my new materials to manage my inventory. Moving my items between the spacesuit and the spaceship to free up slots.

There were a bunch of unidentified rocks on this planet as well, so I took a little time and scanned them to earn credits. I think it also gives me extra minerals when I ID it but maybe im wrong.. not sure, but I try to always scan with the tool to get more credits.
