Hey Bakers, today chef EK shows you how to make the original red velvet cake in time for valentines day, using a natural coloring instead of unhealthy artificial colors.
1)Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and coco powder and keep aside
2)Mix the Beetroot powder and the yogurt together, and keep separate
3)Whip the eggs, vanilla and sugar
4) once whipped add the dry mix to the eggs
5)add the yogurt and continue to mix
6)finally add the oil and add to baking pans
Bake for 15-20 minutes in shallow pans or longer in deeper pans at 180c/360f
Cream cheese icing***
1) add the icing sugar and vanilla to the cheese spread and mix out all of the lumps
2)boil 150g of cream, and whip the remaining 350g of cream
3)Add gelatin to the boiled cream, after it has boiled, and is still warm
4)add the butter
5) add the two mixes together, followed by the whipped cream and its ready!
Decoration****
1)cut and level your layers of red velvet sponge
2) crumble the extra sponge and bake on low in the oven to make a crumb layer
3) place your first layer into the cake ring mold and distribute the frosting evenly
4) repeat for all three layers
5)Level the top off and refrigerate for at least 2 hours
Take your baked crumbs and push them through a colander or strainer to make an equal sized coating
Brush your cake with sugar syrup
Apply the crumbs to the exterior of the cake, and you're done!
