BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY (The Four Seasons) Solo Ukulele
"Hi, everybody. This is your cousin Brucie. Whoa! Our summer romances are in full bloom, and everybody's in love! So cousins, here's a great song from The Four Seasons..." Recorded this afternoon for Season 576 of the Ukulele: Dirty Dancing. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eo4z6tfkEtM
The origin of this song is probably from an old Christian hymnal. Woody Guthrie probably took inspiration from that hymn and penned some new lyrics (with no music we know of) in his songwriting journal. Woody's daughter, Nora, gave the lyrics to Wilco and Billy Bragg who wrote music to allow these words to be realised fully as a song to share with the world. You can find it on the album. "Mermaid Avenue II."
Recorded this afternoon (when I was supposed to be doing something else!) for Season 466 of the Ukulele: "If You Want Blood (You Got It)" A special shout-out and dedication to Rob, our good friend up in Finland.

It has been rough all over. Even though I have kept to the perimeter of all things Nirvana, it felt right to let this band annihilate my mind for the last couple of weeks.
Lithium is the lightest metal and the lightest solid element (atomic no. 3.) I recorded this late in the afternoon today as part of Season 446 Of The Ukulele: ROCK AND METAL. That is to say, songs about minerals and metals. Lithium is certainly a very special metal and this is a very special song. RIP Kurt Cobain.

Just kind of out of the blue, my parents bought me a gift one day. It was a record by Pete Seeger and the first album I ever owned as a child. It was a live children's concert in NYC at Town Hall and one of my favorite songs on the record was this version of Froggy Went A-Courting.
Recorded for Season 448 of the Ukulele: MILK.

I heard this song for the first time in a looong time when it was played on the radio last week.
I had to try to give it a go in the original key of F-sharp.
Please do not judge me or revoke my Punk Rock Ghetto Pass. I am playing it today for Bobby King and his tomatoes.

Composed by John Pi'iliani Watkins in 1947, this modern traditional Mele is very popular among Hawaiian hula dancers. We don't have an experienced hula dancer in my contact bubble, but I am very fortunate to have my good friend, Thea, to dance and sing along with in these COVID times. Without people like Thea, this world would be a grey and lonely place.
Recorded this afternoon for Season 475 of the Ukulele: Aloha Spirit.

What a fantastic song. I did not know who wrote this standard of the jazz canon until just now. It is Ann Ronell, who wrote both the music and the lyric. Thank you, Ms Ronell, wherever you may be.
