History Makes History : Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra About New Book on Shaheed Jaswant Singh Khalra

Partnership in Promoting Punjabi Art and Literature (PIPPAḶ) - a U.S. nonprofit formed to popularize Punjabi language and heritage amongst young generation launched the dual-language editions of its book on the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra — for children and youth.
In the fully illustrated, hardcover editions of 225 pages each, Gurmeet Kaur, author of the series Fascinating Folktales of Punjab takes her young readers on a journey through the life and times of the iconic human rights activist, Jaswant Singh Khalra (1952 - 1995), who was tortured and brutally murdered in custody for valiantly standing by the hapless victims of state oppression; with a comprehensive overview of the recent history of the Sikhs and Punjab — A journey every child and family interested in social activism and the twentieth-century history of Punjab should make.
The book was launched by Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra (Khalra Mission Organization), Rajvinder Singh Bains (Punjab Human Rights Organization), Gurbachan Singh and Jaspal Singh Sidhu in Chandigarh Press Club on October 24th, 2020.
The launch was followed by a book dedication in Toronto, Canada, at the Ontario Khalsa Darbar, Mississauga, on the same day. There, the author dedicated the book to Jaswant Singh Khalra at the same spot where he delivered his iconic speech - “I Challenge the Darkness,” twenty five years ago, before he was murdered upon his return to Punjab. The dedication was hosted by the World Sikh Organization.

In general election held in England yesterday (December 12), two Sikh MPs who were seeking re-election have registered success.
Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi, who was elected as first Dastar wearing MP to the British Parliament in 2017 has won from his Slough constituency. Tan Dhesi secured 29,421 votes while his nearest contestant and Conservative candidate Kanwar Toor Gill got 15,781 votes. Slough is considered to be Labour stronghold.
Similarly, first Sikh women MP in British Parliament, Preet Kaur Gill has won from Birmingham Edgbaston. She won 21,217 votes, fending off the Tory challenge of Alex Yip, with 15,603. Colin Green, of the Liberal Democrats, achieved 3,349 votes, followed by Phil Simpson, of the Green Party, with 1,112. David Wilks, of the Brexit Party, achieved 1,047 votes. Voters turnout was 61.7 per cent on this seat. Notably, Birmingham Edgbaston was once considered to be a safe Conservative seat, but it returned a Labour MP since 1997.

Dera Sauda Sirsa came in clash with the Sikhs in 2007 when Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim attempted to personify himself as Tenth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and staged a darama of Amrit Sanskar. Personification of Sikh Guru or staging drama of Amrit Sanskar is strictly prohibited in the Sikh tradition.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim was booked by Punjab police on the complaint of Rajinder Singh Sidhu in 2007. The case was ultimately got discharged from the court by the Punjab government led by Parkash Singh Badal in 2015 as the Punjab police had filed a closure report in this matter.
As it was the prosecution (state government and police), who got Gurmeet Ram Rahim discharged in this case, the state did not file an appeal. Similarly Rajinder Singh Sidhu, who was connected with SAD (Badal), did not take any legal court against lower court's decision.
Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur and Baba Hardeep Singh Mehraj, who had joined the case in as co-complainants in 2011 challenged lower court's verdict in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. That appeal is still pending for hearing.

ਭਾਈ ਕਾਹਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਭਾ ਨੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਕੋਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ‘ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਲਈ ਸਕੂਲ, ਆਤਮਜਗਿਆਸਾ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਗਿਆਨਉਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਆਚਾਰਯ, ਰੋਗੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਫ਼ਾਖ਼ਾਨਾ, ਭੁੱਖਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਅੰਨਪੂਰਣਾ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਦੀ ਪਤ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਲੋਹਮਈ ਦੁਰਗਾ, ਅਤੇ ਮੁਸਾਫਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਵਿਸ਼੍ਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਹੈ’।
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦੇ ਭਲੇ ਦਾ ਆਸ਼ਾ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆ ਹੈ। ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਖਾਸ ਖਿੱਤੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਖਾਸ ਮੁਲਕ/ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਗਰਿਕਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਸੀਮਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਜਿਹਾ ਕਿ ‘ਵੈਲਫੇਅਰ ਸਟੇਟ’ ਦੇ ਸੰਕਲਪ ਤਹਿਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਸਿਰਫ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਾਤੀ ਦੀ ਭਲਾਈ ਤੱਕ ਸੀਮਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਬਲਕਿ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਸਿਰਜੇ ਹਰ ਚੱਲ-ਅਚੱਲ ਜੀਵ ਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਸੇਵਾ ਦਾ ਉੱਦਮ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦੇ ਭਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਅਹਿਮ ਤੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਜਰੀਆ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿ ‘ਭਲਾਈ’ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪੱਧਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਰਾਜ ਵੀ ਇੱਕ ਅਹਿਮ ਜ਼ਰੀਆ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ ਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਮੁਹਥਾਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਕਹਿਣ ਦਾ ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਲਈ ਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਅਹਿਮੀਅਤ ਘੱਟ ਹੈ ਬਲਕਿ ਇਹ ਦਰਸਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਗ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੱਲਣ ਲਈ ਸਿੱਖ ਕਿਸੇ ਖਾਸ ਰਾਜਸੀ ਹਾਲਾਤ ਦੇ ਨਿਰਭਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪੁਰਾਤਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦੇ ਭਲੇ ਹਿਤ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੂਹਕ ਪੱਧਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਾਰਜਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਮਿਸਾਲਾਂ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣ ਹਨ।
ਅੱਜ ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਕਰੋਨਾ ਮਹਾਂਮਾਰੀ ਦੀ ਮਾਰ ਹੇਠ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਮੁੜ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਬਖਸ਼ੇ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦੇ ਭਲੇ ਆਸ਼ੇ ਮੁਤਾਬਿਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਬਖਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਾਲ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਰੋਨਾ ਮਹਾਂਮਾਰੀ ਕਾਰਨ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਭਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਾਲਾਬੰਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਕੋਨੇ-ਕੋਨੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਲੋੜਵੰਦਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਰਸਦ-ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਪਰਸ਼ਾਦੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਏ ਸਨ। ਹੁਣ ਜਦੋਂ ਇੰਡੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਰੋਨਾ ਮਹਾਂਮਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਪਰਕੋਪ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਕਾਫੀ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਨ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾਕਾਮ ਸਾਬਿਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤਰਾਹੇਮਾਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਲੋਕਾਈ ਦੇ ਭਲੇ ਹਿਤ ਜੁਟ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਦਿੱਲੀ, ਗਾਜ਼ੀਆਬਾਦ ਸਮੇਤ ਇਸ ਖਿੱਤੇ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਹਿੱਸਿਆਂ ਵਿਚਲੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਗੁਰਦੂਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਸਾਹ ਦੀ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਤੋਂ ਪੀੜਿਤ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਜੀਆਂ ਲਈ ‘ਆਕਸੀਜਨ’ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਦੁਨੀਆ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਖਬਰ ਅਦਾਰੇ ਵਿਖਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਜੋ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਕਹਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਵੀ ਨਾਕਾਮ ਸਾਬਿਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿੱਥੇ ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਹਸਪਤਾਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੈਡਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਦੋ ਚਾਰ ਹਨ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮੌਕੇ ਦੇ ਹਾਲਾਤ ਮੁਤਾਬਿਕ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੀ ‘ਆਕਸੀਜਨ’ ਲਗਾ ਕੇ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ ਬੇਲੋੜੀਆਂ ਕਾਰਵਾਈਆਂ ਦੀ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਬਲਕਿ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਗਵਾਏ ਇੱਕ ਇੱਕ ਸਾਹ ਲਈ ਬੇਹਾਲ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਨ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
