"Songs from a day in a home on Seminary Ave.
I am awake at the yellow edge of dawn at 6am. The autumn light has just met the windows. A girl named Emily is asleep in the other room. Pressed in the crook of her leg is a curly-haired cream-colored dog named Soup. Very soon they will be awake. Before the fog has lifted from the Marsh, they'll walk down and watch the woodpeckers dart between trees. They'll spy the heron and the egret waiting in the cool water. A flock of geese stands ready for flight. The ducks dabble listless through across the pond. They will all spend the whole day out there, watching the October sky fade from blue to blue to a peachen spray of pink and gold. They will make their way home. They will stop to watch the sunset from the bridge overlooking town. The watertower will hulk above the flat terrain like a friendly giant. At home they will make dinner. Chicken, maybe. And rice. Where has the day gone? It's 10pm and they are tired. They have spent the day between sleep and in the sun. They are ready for the next."
