This was the first test for our two home-made fuelless cookers, (see links to how we made them in the video response section below). We are using them here to cook a cassoulet and a baked rice pudding. I shall link this to a blog with more information on how we cooked the food and as we are repeating the experiment today, with more precision on the temperatures and cooking times. We don't eat meat very often as we only buy organic food and it is our most expensive item. This way of slow cooking cooking enabled us to get maximum flavour for minimum outlay. When we returned home, we went on to finish the cassoulet in the traditional way in the oven. In 1990 I saw an advert for a farm with a little land in the county where I was born. The price was so cheap and the description idyllic but the advert was actually a mistake. Undaunted we went on to finally find and purchase a ruined longhouse with a enclosed 1000m² abandoned garden in the Sud Manche, Basse Normandie. Our goal was to create a wild garden, which would nourish us physically and become a place of safety for our free-range poultry. This in the hope that they would re-discover their natural foraging abilities and flock dynamics.
