Attaching a Greist Rotary Buttonholer to a Modern Sewing Machine
See how this old school Greist Rotary Buttonholer works on a modern sewing machine such as this low shank Brother GS2510.
Many sewing machines do not have a keyhole buttonhole option so this is a great option if you happen to have a Greist buttonholer and an appropriate machine to attach it to.

If your Elna Supermatic sewing machine has no lighting then the bulb is either missing or blown, or there is some other electrical issue.
Shock hazard exists. Please make sure to disconnect power from the machine before proceeding.
In this video I show how to check the bulb and replace it if necessary.
There are several reasons for a bulb to not be lighting on your sewing machine.
Check there's power to the machine and on this model, make sure the light switch is on.
The machine should still run if the switch on the right of the machine is in the off position. This switch is just for turning the light on and off.
If the bulb is installed but there is no light when turned on then it's more than likely the bulb is blown and needs replacing. If the bulb is missing it's easy to install a new one.
The bulb is difficult to get a hold of when trying to remove it from the machine but there's a way to lower the bulb and its carrier to make it easier to change,
There's a hole in the lid on the left side, where you can push a screw driver or something like that (a knitting needle?) to push the bulb carrier down.
This makes it easy to get a hold of the bulb to remove it and to install a replacement.

This beautiful Singer Featherweight Centenary Edition sewing machine had been modified to the point where it is no longer a sewing machine.
This video covers removing the required parts from the donor Featherweight machine.
Part 1 - https://youtu.be/5ctNce1Y4ZU reveals what the machine had been converted to, assessing the donor parts machine and fixing the issue with the machine tripping the mains circuit breaker.

If your Singer sewing machine is not feeding, it's quite possible there is a broken feed gear or two.
This video covers identifying broken feed gears and replacing them in Singer models 400, 500, 700, 800 series and many more, including this Stylist 498.
The replacement gears are readily available and reasonable inexpensive.
During replacement of the feed gears, the hook timing and feed timing is upset.
There are two other videos yet to come related to the timing. I will post links here when I have release the videos in the near future.
Find detailed subjects covered in this video in the index below.

As seen in the previous video - https://youtu.be/9WhhTwbZc5Y - this beautiful Bernina 117L was seized.
Today I have a happy outcome for this lovely Bernina.
Thanks to a viewer's comment which jogged my memory as to the fact that I had accidentally only checked two of the three gear backlash settings.
It happened to be that the one set of gears I had failed to check and they were tight. This was contributing to the tightness in the machine, along with a seizing bearing.

The Singer 29K171 boot patcher is an amazing machine that's a tried and true design.
This video covers some basics such as bobbin winding and installing, needle installation, threading and basic use.
A standard sewing machine generally feeds in two directions, with some exceptions, forward and backwards. This machine can be 'steered' in any direction without the need to turn the work. You can let the machine walk its way around the work. This is useful for patching leather and other heavy materials.
The very small size of the arm allows the arm to be inserted into a boot or shoe so it can be repaired and/or patched.

I assess these two beautiful Singer 401A sewing machines from the 1950s. Hopefully they are both good but I suspect there's an issue with one of them.
Made in the U.S.A. - these machines are of the highest quality and are made to last generations.
Their aesthetic is amazing and I really like the combination of colours.
The selection of stitches available is wide and varied with the addition of pattern cams.

I was sewing in the weekend and I just fell in love (again) with my Elna Supermatic SU while I was making a shirt. I just had to make a video!
The top stitching created by this machine is some of the best I've seen made by a domestic sewing machine.
I don't normally put actual sewing content onto my channel but now that I am getting back into one of my hobbies, I thought it would be an interesting subject.
These sewing machines are so good, quiet, smooth, amazing stitch formation and that's just the start. I could rave on for ages on this one.

Sewing machine manufacturers use different methods for threading. I show some of the other commonly seen threading methods with a Singer and a Bernina as subjects.
If you need to use a dark coloured thread and are having trouble seeing it when threading, I show a handy tip.
This tip can also be used to change thread colour without completely re-treading your machine.
See how you can use fuse wire to make threading easier.
The Bernina has a needle set screw for each needle. Find out how you can convert to three thread by removing the needle and not loose the tiny screw.
You can check the machine's blades yourself to determine if they need sharpening or not.
