This isn't the only way to do it.
It's probably not the best way to do it.
But it's how I do it.

About a year and a half ago I built a lighting panel for above my workbench. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSAFJlxWWmE)
But there's always been one thing that kinda annoyed me about it.
So today I'm taking a stab at improving it using some material I found on the side of the road.

It was about a year ago that Big Clive showed the world that the disposable (ahem) personal smog inhaler devices generally contain a rechargeable lithium battery that is salvageable and re-usable for our electronic projects.
Since then, I've been keeping my eye out for any that have been discarded, and I finally found a couple of them.
So, let's see what sort of batteries and other secrets are inside these things.
After running a couple of charge/discharge cycles these cells come fairly close to their claimed ratings
1:
labelled: 850mA/h
measured: 769 mA/h
90% of label rating
2:
labelled: 650mA/h
measured: 521 mA/h
81% of label rating

Back in January I built this very nice old style tank car kit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24m0jfZRJdU
There was some interest in seeing me weather it, so here we go!
Black painted freight cars are challenging to weather, and this one didn't come out looking as old and worn as I would have liked, but an attempt was made. And, after all, you can *always* add more weathering later.

It's always interesting to see the variety of stuff in the "dollar" stores these days.
Some useful things, some decorative things, and some simply fun things...
And if you want to know more about what I'm drinking today, here is a proper review:

Everything has felt a bit... different lately, so I decided to do a Q&A video to change things up a bit.
A couple of weeks ago I invited some questions from you guys, and now here's what I have to say about them.
Normal (whatever that is) videos will resume next week.

Thanks to Mark for sending this interesting device in.
This is a Perceptron Flexicam industrial camera and laser scanner that used to be part of a factory robot system.
This was a fun and interesting tear down of a type of equipment that I have had no exposure to in the past. Exciting!
I mentioned a research paper that I found which explains how this general class of device works, if you are interested: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/312483240_Modeling_and_Calibration_of_a_Novel_One-Mirror_Galvanometric_Laser_Scanner
Here's the company that made this thing:https://perceptron.com/
And their youtube channel that has some video of these and similar camera/laser units at work in factory environments: https://www.youtube.com/user/PerceptronInc/

Something a bit different this week.
I got this padlock without a key at a yard sale.
I'm going to try and make one, just for the challenge of it.

Remember how expensive those "smart" light bulbs were when they first came on the scene?
Well these days you can find them in discount stores like Dollarama.
Which means they're cheap enough to buy for a teardown!
